Alejandro and May have known each other since they were kids.
They met on the playground at the age of five, and then Alec fell in love with May. Once he saw May, Alec would tell her he loved her every day. May found it funny not to think anything of it as, in her mind, they were just friends. Alec's grandparents, Angelica and Hector, and May's parents, Athena and Michael, found Alec's fascination with May adorable.
But to Alec, it was true.

He may have been young, but Alec knew how he felt for the Grant girl, and it was love—a love that would never go away for as long as he knew May.
May went along with Alec, finding his attention on her lovely. So when Alec asked May to be his girlfriend, she said yes. Their relationship only entailed hand-holding, play days at the park, and sharing their lunches at school.
Then, Alec and May grew older, and their relationship became more real. They made it official when they got to high school. Everyone knew them and how much they genuinely loved each other. A lot of the kids at school were jealous of it. One can only dream of their type of love, but somehow, Alec and May found it.
Even after years of knowing each other and being in a relationship, the couple still acted like they were in their honeymoon phase. They couldn't get enough of each other, always touching or giving each other small kisses.
Some found it annoying how perfect and in love the couple were, but it never bothered Alec or May.

One person bothered by it was May's father, Michael.
At first, Michael finds Alec and May's relationship cute when they are kids. Some innocent love between two children was adorable to anyone who noticed it. However, as they grew older, Michael grew protective of his little girl, and although he knew Alec was a sweet kid, that didn't mean he wanted his daughter to date him.
Or anyone, for that matter.
Alec and May being together constantly angered Michael, so he tried to keep them apart. May was angry with her father, as was her mother, Athena, who wasn't as bothered by May's relationship with Alec. They tried talking with Michael, but he never listened, so neither did May. When Michael ground her or locked May in her room, she'd sneak out of her window.
