chapter 3 "abilities and talents"

Dev had been swimming, per usual. He was doing quick spins in the water, creating small riptides as Kier witnessed this ability from the land. Suddenly an idea struck Kier. What are devs other abilities?.

"Dev! Come here!" He called out, putting one hand beside his mouth so that all the sound propagated in one direction without spreading out.

Dev heard Kier and stopped creating riptides in the water. Instead Dev swam over to the land where Kier was quickly. "Yeah?" He answered as he swam up next to the land, both of his hands clenching onto the dirt to help keep his head above the sea.

"Do you have any other abilities? Or- talents?" Kier asked, sitting down next to the water, putting his hand in and swirling it around.

Dev thought long and hard about what he could do that might impress Kier. He decided on what he was going to do that might make Kier impressed by his abilities. "Alright, watch this." Dev said as he swam off, quite far so the trick must be something big and cool. His long scale-y tail helped out with the trick, he was ... Creating a whirlpool? It was quite small but it was surely powerful.

Dev was a very fast swimmer - because he is a sea serpent. -, so it didn't take long for the whirlpool to show up. The water was moving in two different directions, coming into contact with each other and interacting in an unusual way.

Soon enough another sea serpent joined Dev.. and another.. and in a few minutes four sea serpents were creating a maelstrom in the water. Kier watched in.. amazement as the four did what they were doing. It was fascinating that such a small amount of creatures could create such a powerful and strong maelstrom in the water.

Kier watched with a soft smile and a gentle sway of his fiery red tail as the Sea serpents left the maelstrom, he was surprised none of them got sucked in... How strong were those sea serpents?

Dev swam back over to Kier, grinning as he was proud of what he had done with his sea friends. "Did you see how big we made that?" Dev asked, looking up at Kier with happiness in his eyes.

Kier smiled down at Dev, petting his head gently. "Yeah I did! Do you wanna see something cool that I can do?" Kier said as a response to Dev. The sea serpent quickly nodded, keeping his eyes on Kier.

Kier sat down somewhat in a meditational pose. He closed his eyes and relaxed. Kier put his hands together and slowly started to bring them apart, creating a ball of fire in his hands. Dev watched in amazement... It was like a colorblind person seeing colors properly for the first time. Pure bliss and amazement on Dev's face as he watched Kier focus on creating a ball of flame between his two palms.

Kier got the fireball to the size of a basketball before he snapped back to reality. He held the fire up proudly as he looked down at Dev who had been clapping, showing he was proud of the fire dragon who stood before him.

"I like it!" Dev said as he watched Kier... Eat the fireball? Dev stopped clapping for a second, confused. Dev slowly went back to clapping, ignoring the fact that his friend just swallowed a basketball sized ball of flame.

Kier seemed happy as he sat back down next to where Dev was peeking out of the water. "Look what happens now" he said, a bit of smoke coming out of his mouth as he spoke. Dev tilted his head to the left, squinting his void black eyes ever so slightly.

Kier inhaled a lot before he started to breathe smoke out of his mouth and nose. Dev watched, he was proud of Kier like a father proud of a child's first achievements. Kier inhaled again, ready to exhale more smoke.

After Kier had gotten all of the smoke out of his body he stretched out, his hand accidentally landing on Devs. Though neither of them minded or moved away, instead they somewhat held hands.... As friends of course.
