chapter 4 "worst and best hatchday ever"

It was june 13th, Dev's birthday.. or "hatchday".

Dev swam through the water with his family. Each hatchday for a sea serpent would have a sort of party. All of the family of the sea serpent who was celebrating their birthday would have to do a certain type of "dance" as a celebration on the day their family member was brought into this world.

Dev had no clue kier was waiting for him on land, he was too busy with his family in celebration.

They decided on catching a shark for Dev. He and his family hunted a lemon shark together.

"Dev! There's one over there!" Said Dev's cousin, pointing to a lemon shark that had been swimming nearby.

Dev nodded as he prepared, his family watched as he swam over, attacking the shark.

Dev clawed, slashed, and dug his claws into the lemon shark flesh as blood poured into the sea. He mainly targeted the shark's gills and eyes. Of course he was getting hurt as well.

His family members were on standby in case it got too messy. Dev hissed and growled as he felt the shark bite his waist, causing more blood to spill into the ocean. He bit back, tearing the shark's face to pieces with his powerful chomps and bites.

The surrounding family members cheered for Dev as he killed the shark.

"It's dead! I did it!" Dev raised his arms, his tail helped grasp onto the shark. Dev swam back to his family's cave in the water, where they were staying. They entered the cave, all of Devs family members watched as Dev began to tear apart the lemon shark corpse.

Dev found the skull, eating the flesh off of it. he put the shark's skull on his head, showing his achievement off to the rest of his pit.

Dev and his family feasted upon the shark's body as a traditional celebration for each sea serpents 18th hatchday.

Dev wore the ribcage and skull of the shark, which showed the rest of the pi that it was his hatchday. Each sea serpent he talked to said "sav'aaq" which meant happy birthday in tradition.

Kier waited the whole day for Dev to show up. He was getting worried. He saw the slight redness of the distant water and could somewhat smell the heavy blood. He was starting to lose hope that Dev would ever make an appearance.

Kier laid down, watching the water as his tail curled up beside him. Kier's wings were used as a blanket of some sort as he laid on his stomach.

"C'mon Dev.. where the fuck are you..?"
Kier talked to himself, wishing Dev would hurry up.

Kier got up, he grabbed the stuff he planned for Dev and Kier's day. But Dev never showed up. Kier didn't know that it was Dev's hatchday, so he thought Dev ditched him.. or was hurt.

Kier was about to leave before he saw riptides in the water. His face lit up with hope as he sat back down, dipping his feet into the cold summer water.

"DEV?!" He shouted.. but there was no response. Kier kept trying to shout for Dev, the riptides got closer to Kier.

"Dev!" He said as the riptides stopped right in front of him. It was a sea serpent. Just not Dev.

The sea serpent spoke, "who are you?" A soft voice said, popping their head out of the water.

"Oh.. you're not Dev. I'm Keir, nice to meet you?" Kier looked at the sea serpent confused. They looked like Dev.. but different.

"How do you know about Dev? You're not a sssea being." They said, staring up at Kier with void black yet shiny eyes.

"Uhm- Devs my friend! We met right here a couple weeks ago." Kier said, his tail wagging like a dog's tail when given a treat.
