after getting her hair done at work then quickly going home to touch up her makeup and making it a little extra for the date, liberty then got changed in a simple dress before driving to the beach herself and charley agreed to meet at.

"you look so pretty," charley greeted the girl with a hug.

"you look really pretty too," she returned a smile.

the elder grabbed liberty's hand as she lead her down to the little picnic set up she had laid out, taking a seat and pouring each of them a glass of champagne while she told the other to help herself to the snacky-type food.

"i've never had a date do something like this for me.." liberty mentioned, taking a sip from the glass. "i can't have most of this, but i appreciate it nonetheless."

"oh, do you have allergies?" she slightly tilted her head. "i never thought to ask."

"yeah.. to nuts and dairy.. and i'm also quite a picky eater," she chuckled to soften the mood. "i want to start branching out though.. the last guy i was with seemed to be sorta judgey about it.."

"that's what you get for dating a guy," charley softly laughed. "i mean, i'm not trying to judge you for liking guys but.. most of them are odd creatures.."

"mh.." the other hummed in agreement. "my best friend- i have a guy best friend, daniel, he's a nice guy.. he's nothing like the guy i was seeing but we've also being friends our whole life so it makes sense."

she softly nodded to acknowledge the fact she was listening, "..how long have you liked girls for?"

"um almost.. five years, i was dating daniel at the time and i just couldn't shaking the feelings i had for this one girl who was openly out," liberty babbled. "so we went back to being friends and i went on a date with her which didn't go very well but it helped to ease my mind and like solidify my feelings towards girls."

"what made it not go well?" she asked — wanting to make sure she never made the girl feel that way.

"do you like me or not?" sage asked the girl sat across the restaurant table from herself. "you can't stop talking about this boy, and i'm looking for something serious, i'm not wanting to be messed around with, or used for you to decide if you like girls or not."

"i do like you, and i can't stop thinking about you.. i've never been with a girl before but i'm not intending to mess around with you.." liberty explained. "when i get awkward i overshare and daniel's a big part of my life, i do a lot with him, a lot of my core memories are with him, i'm so proud of where he is and him succeeding in the way he wants so i'm bound to talk about him."

"i just.. i don't know how i feel about dating someone who's bi and just broken up with their boyfriend, and doesn't have any plans to cut contact with because he happens to be their best friend.. i don't know if i'm ready to get into that."

"growing up, our families were always saying that they want particularly either me and daniel or alro and anna to eventually get married.." the younger softly spoke. "so when alro passed last year, we talked and came to the conclusion that we're so close already and dating's not that different, so why not have some good news for our families after all that happened.."

"it might be wrong of me to say this but you can't really use a dead relative to get someone to be with you," sage replied. "like i'm sorry you lost your brother but i said where i stand and i would like for you to respect that."

"okay.." she softly nodded.

"i went home and cried after that," liberty softly chuckled after telling the story of her first date with a girl.

"didn't go to the boy?"

"m-mh," she shook her head. "i was still living at home in seattle then and daniel was here but he was in.. europe, with his band on tour- i did go like the week later to him but that night i was very heartbroken."

"aw," charley softly frowned. "i'll let you know, i don't see an issue with you having a guy best friend, especially if you've already attempted dating it didn't work out and the fact you've been friends for so long."

"you're like the first person i've been with that's said that," she smiled as she stared into the other girl's eyes, the feeling of butterflies in her stomach.
