Amy gasped, her heart pounding frantically when she was startled awake by the trill of her smart phone, alerting her that she had a new text message. She abruptly lifted her head from the pillow and reached across the bed, grabbing the device from the nightstand. Her eyes strained against the bright glow of the screen when she powered it on, realizing she had a new text from Christian. Suddenly, she was wide awake. The unexpected text read:
Well good evening, my dear Amy. I was wondering if you were going to text me back, seeing as how I sent that message last night. You had me a little worried this morning. However, that being said, I was delighted to see that you did. How are you, sweetheart?
Her heart skipped a beat, her hand going to her chest. He was worried about her? Awww! She quickly texted him back: Other than my heart pounding like crazy right now on account of you waking me up from a deep sleep, I'm fine, Dr. Masters. ;) Thanks for asking. Xx. With a light laugh, she sent the message off.
One look at the clock on her phone told her she still had almost two hours before she had to be at Eric's place. She might as well get up and eat something and that leftover sushi sounded delish right now. Stretching her arms high above her head, she groaned wearily. Her muscles still felt pretty weak and heavy, but they weren't as sore as they'd been earlier. Judging by the darkening sky peeking out from behind her hot pink velvet curtains, it was just after sunset. After exuding another yawn, she reached out to turn on the lamp beside her bed. She blinked a few times, lifting her hand in front of her face to shield her eyes from the sudden glow. As she got up to head into the kitchen, her phone gave another trill with another text from Christian.
It's known as a "flight or fight" response. Your nervous system releases nor-epinephrine and causes the acceleration of your heart rate and your breathing. It provides your body with that extra energy needed for survival.
She blinked in astonishment, a light laugh escaping her. Whoa! This man knew everything, didn't he? Smart, sexy and an amazing lover. That is so frickin' hot! She walked out of her bedroom, still looking down at her phone, about to type a response back to him when Courtney greeted her.
"Hey, you're up," she said, looking over at her from where she laid on the couch. "That Backstreet Boys documentary is on."
Amy stopped in her tracks, gasping and looking at the TV. "What! And you didn't wake me up? How long has it been on?"
Courtney laughed lightly. "About a half hour. Don't worry, I'm recording it for you...well, us. We totally have to go see them again."
She sighed in relief and smirked. "Totally. You rock, thank you." Her phone trilled again with yet another message from Christian reading:
And that was probably far more information than you needed to know, but I do apologize for putting such a panic into your heart and waking you up. Try taking a couple deep breaths and please, don't neglect to rest on my account. Go back to sleep.
She smiled brightly, shaking her head in disbelief. Was this man even real? Even though he wasn't there with her, she followed his command and took a couple deep breaths just for the hell of it. She started to type a message back in response, stopping at the sound of her friend's voice.
"Ooh...booty call!" Courtney teased. "Is that the famous Mr. Grey?"
Amy rolled her eyes. "Okay, first of all, stop calling him that. And for your information, no. It's not Eric. It's the other guy." She resumed typing her message. Gotta love a man who knows about the human body, and it's ok. Breaths have been taken, doctor. I'm up now. But thank you. You're a sweetheart. Xoxo.
