The Arranged Marriage

Chapter 25

When Julia opened her eyes, Alexander, who was working and holding coffee in his other hand, startled her.

He looked at her, and he was blank. What was he thinking?

"Why are you still here?"

"To give my wife the attention that she deserves."

"You're mad at me, aren't you?"

"No, I'm not."

"Yes, you're, and punishing me like this will resolve it?"

"As a wife, you need your husband to be with you, so that is what you will get."

She scoffed, "We will see how long this lasts."

He nodded and went back to his work.

Afternoon came, and she sat on a long garden patio chair, and of course, next to her, it was Alexander.

She had spent the whole day with him and that was the longest that she had ever spent with him.

"What's wrong, honey?"

Julia snapped out of her thoughts. "Nothing."

"I want to make you happy after all."

She scratched her head at a loss of words and closed her eyes as the breeze caressed her face.

What was he playing at?

"What is wrong, honey?"

"What's wrong with you?"

"What do you mean?"

"You know what I mean."

"Why are you so against this?"

"I'm not. You're making me uncomfortable."

He chuckled a bit. "Well, you better get used to it, darling."

Julia sighed and leaned back.

"Julia, Julia."

She opened her eyes. "What's going on?"

"Time to go inside."

She could see that it was late in the afternoon. And got up. She checked her phone and found a message from Blake asking if she wanted to go for dinner.

Julia was glad. Anything for her to run away from Alexander. She went to their room rather as he was in his work office.

She got dressed and began heading out, but they stopped her in the living room.

"What?"

"Your husband said we cannot let you out."

"Are you kidding me right now? Move."

"We cannot mam, we will be in huge trouble if we do."

"Do I look like a prisoner to you?"

They all looked down, and her temper was boiling. She went into his office and shut the door so that they could not be heard.

He looked up and could see that he was looking her over.

"I need to get out."

"Where are you going?"

"Not that it's any of your business. I'm going to meet Blake for dinner."

"That won't do."

"What do you mean, that won't do?"

"Just as I said, we need to spend quality time together."

"I've spent my whole day with you. What more do you want?"

"To be with my love all the time."

"I get that, but too much time together is not healthy."

"We would have to see about that."

It frightened her the way he said it. It was a challenge to him.

"Okay, this is nonsense. Even if we spend time together, I need to see my friend."

"Do you Julia?"

"That's what I said, genius."

Alexander got up swiftly and began walking towards her.
