As she was heading, down to the entrance room with her mama, eloise, and Colin, to leave to a soirée— Anthony comes out of his study, "i was unaware there was a ball tonight" Anthony tells them as they walked, "it is a soirée brother" Ester corrects him before walking ahead where she was walking by eloise and Colin, "did you not receive your invitation from the Danbury footman?" Their mama asks as the three of them stop for their mama

Anthony sighs in annoyance and realization, "the soirée's at the Danbury house, and miss Sharma like to accuse me of playing games" Anthony complains, making their mama have a scoff like chuckle, "can you blame her?" Their mama says as she walked away to leave, though her words confused Anthony, "what?" Anthony responds, making them stop once more as they look at him

"She is looking out for her sister. She hopes to find her a love match, and with you, apparently so forthright in your disdain for such a thing. Perhaps miss Edwina's other suitors plan on choosing words more wisely tonight. Some are reading poetry i hear" their mama says, making Ester's brows raise in interest as Anthony scoffs lightly, "there is a lesson here for you somewhere, Anthony. I hope that this time you will finally learn it" their mama scolds, making Ester's jaw drop

"Come along" their mama says, making the three of them clear their throat, "see you later tonight, brother" Ester bids farewell as she and her mama hook arms as they all walk away and leave

While there was some, quite awful performances by the men, Ester was forcing herself to not laugh at their.. performances, she wondered if all men were that uncoordinated, "their not very well, are they?" The sound of one lord coltan having a quiet voice, makes her jolt a bit as she snaps her head, "my lord, have you been here for a while?" She asks quietly to him, "perchance. Ohh, he's bringing out some cards, now what may be do.. ah! What shock, he is not good" he jokes as he makes commentary— though this makes her burst out a snot like laugh, making everyone look at her as she straightens up, "my apologies, go on" she says, and the man goes back to what he was doing with the cards while the women all look at her

She has snapped her head at him as she had a small pout like frown while he had a teasing look, before she cracked a smile as she looked back, "what was that laugh?" He asks, "oh. My apologies for the laugh—" she went to apologize, "no, no, that laugh wasn't bad, in fact, i hope you laugh more, it's quite lovely" he tells her as he looked down, and her breath was taken away from his compliment as she looked up at him before looking forward as he had a small warmth of her cheeks

Her mama and lady danbury, however had seen it and she was smiling at the scene while lady danbury was smirking, "it seems that lord colton is charming your daughter." Lady danbury gossips to Violet, who looks at her friend, "do you know much about Lord Colton? I do not believe i've seen him much before." Violet whispers to her friend

"Ah, lord Colton. Yes, he's a marquees who's not seen to go out to social gatherings." Lady danbury repeats, making Violet's brows shoot up, "a marquees? Oh how wonderful" violet smiles as she watches Ester and Lord Colton talk quietly, both having their own versions of smiles.

And now, after some time and a man went up and spoke a lovely poem that seems to be swooning all the ladies— though Ester wasn't very swooned, the poem was quite wonderful, lady Danbury went up to say that it was time that the soirée to come to a close, when suddenly— Anthony was coming through the small crowd, causing some surprise, "pardon me, lady Danbury?" Anthony says as he makes his way to where kate sharma was at

"Uh, lord Bridgerton, i did not expect you" lady Danbury says, elora was the same as she had her brows raised in surprise, "no, i seem to have fallen off the guest list" Anthony responds to lady Danbury, "ah" lady Danbury awes, "though you'd never deny a young man you've known for 29 years the pleasure of your company?" Anthony asks, "well i—" lady Danbury went to say, "and neither would your footman at the front door" Anthony cuts lady Danbury's words off

"Apologies, viscount, you appear to be late again. We were just bringing the evening to a conclusion—" miss Sharma went to call out before getting her words cut off, "surely miss Edwina has time for one more" Anthony cuts miss Sharma's words off, "i spent all evening crafting something. An original. Would you like to hear it?" Anthony tells miss Edwina, who nods

"Would everyone like to hear it?" Anthony calls out, earning agreement from the crowd, "is your brother a poet by any means?" Lord coltan asks quietly, while Ester was flabbergasted, "last i checked, his poetry was less than good, i have read many poems, but when it comes to Anthony's... it's not very well" Ester admits, though at this information that she enjoyed poetry, it made lord coltan look down at her in interest, perchance he'll send a parcel with his own poetry

Then, Anthony steps up to the front as he began to read poetry he had, though he ended up tossing the paper into the fire before exposing himself, though Ester had already learned that it was most likely Benedict's own, though when he told her about how he could still give her some love in his own way i suppose

"If those were not his words, do you know who did? Hm?" He hums in confusion as he looked down at her as they were at the fruit stand, a stand that they've found themselves at each time there was a event they both attended so far, "those words are most likely by my other brother, Benedict" Ester admits as she takes a plum as she seems to be having much like for them as of late

She turned her head at him and gave him a polite smile, and for some reason, he couldn't tear his eyes off of her, his eyes roam her face before they stare into her eyes, "lord coltan? Plum?" She asks, snatching him out of his thoughts, "oh. Yes" he says as he takes it and offers her a polite smile in return
