15: Reverie

Last Saturday was a disaster. An awkward tension wafted in the air between Arrow, Colton, Dandrix, and myself as we had our lunch. Mabuti na lamang ay madaldal si Dandrix kaya hindi kami masyadong nilamon ng katahimikan.

Wala namang nangyaring gulo. Kahit batuhan ng matatalas na titig at parinigan ay hindi naman nangyari. We ate harmoniously despite the distress I was feeling. Alam ko namang hindi komportable si Arrow sa mga kasama naming kumain, ngunit dahil gusto ko siyang inisin ay ako rin mismo ang nahirapan sa sarili kong kagagahan.

Mabuti na lamang ay hindi nagbago ang isip ni Arrow tungkol sa video presentation namin sa PE. We were able to finish it without arguing about the awkward lunch.

"Lutang ka na naman, sis," bulong sa'kin ni Audrey. We're at the computer lab for our individual activity.

"May iniisip 'yan," nakangiting sabi naman ni Maze na nakaupo sa aking tabi.

"Tao ba 'to?" nakangising tanong ni Audrey.

"Oo," sagot ni Maze na may malawak ring ngiti.

"Kilala ko ba 'to?" muling tanong ni Audrey.

"Oo," sagot muli ni Maze.

"Classmate ba natin 'to?" pagpapatuloy ni Audrey.

Bago pa man nila pahabain ang mala-pinoy henyo nilang batuhan ay pumagitna na ako. "Tumigil nga kayo. Hindi ko iniisip si Arrow."

The two quickly covered their mouths, holding back their laughters, while playing with their eyes full of intrigue.

"Bakit kasi hindi mo tabihan doon sa likod?" tanong ni Audrey habang nakatingin kay Arrow na naka-pwesto sa likod ng computer lab.

"Why would I do that?" I asked with slightly annoyed tone.

Maze sniffed. "You talk as if you're so disgusted with your own boyfriend."

"Hindi ko naman kasi talaga siya boyfriend," sambit ko.

Audrey dropped into an urgent whisper. "What are you saying? After what he did at the cafeteria, sasabihin mong hindi mo siya boyfriend?"

"Ipipilit mo pa rin ba na ginagawa niya 'yon para layuan siya ni Maureen?" mahinang tanong ni Maze.

"Believe me, Seven, from the way he looked at you, I knew he's serious about you," added Audrey who looked confident with her statement.

I shifted my head, left and right, shooting my friends a look, then a memory surfaced from the depths of my brain. Naalala ko ang sinabi ni Arrow na huwag na huwag kong aaminin sa iba na hindi totoo ang relasyon namin. I considered Audrey and Maze as my new bestfriends, but I had to lie to them and follow Arrow.

"Boyfriend ko siya," sambit ko. "Pero hindi naman ibig sabihin ay kailangan kong dumikit sa kanya sa bawat oras."

Maze snapped his head towards me instantly. "So you're not the clingy type, huh."

I furrowed my eyebrows. "No, I'm not."

In the middle of our conversation, someone knocked on the door. A student entered and approached our ICT teacher, Mr. Padilla. After a moment of their small whispers, our teacher called Arrow.

"Mr. Castellan, go to the office. Mr. Lizardo wants to talk to you," said Mr. Padilla.

Mabilis namang tumayo si Arrow sa kanyang upuan na hindi maipinta ang mukha. Ramdam ko ang pagka-dismaya sa kanyang mga mata. He kept his eyes down the floor until he went out the laboratory.
