Diya waited anxiously in the dimly lit street opposite the town's cemetery. The clock struck midnight, casting a haunting atmosphere over the deserted town. She had made the unusual decision to meet Caleb outside an abandoned building since no cafes or restaurants in the vicinity were open at such a late hour. The eerie building stood tall and decrepit, its tired facade reminding her of a long-forgotten tale.

The structure appeared to have weathered many years of neglect as it was a once-grand architecture that was now crumbling and covered in layers of peeling paint. The windows were broken, allowing the wind to whistle hauntingly through the empty halls inside. Ivy crawled up the sides of the building as if nature itself was attempting to reclaim what humans had abandoned.

Standing beneath the faded sign that once proudly displayed the purpose of this forsaken place, Diya couldn't help but shiver. The faint glow of Caleb's distant footsteps echoed through the quiet street as he made his way towards her. With every step, her heart pounded in anticipation, and her mind wandered as to why she had agreed to meet at such an unsettling location.

As Caleb drew closer, the sound of a lone owl hooting added to the chilling ambiance. The building seemed to watch their every move, its dark windows hiding secrets and stories waiting to be uncovered. Diya wondered what mysteries lay behind those shattered panes. It was as if the building held the ghosts of its past within its decaying walls.

When Caleb finally caught up with her, Diya couldn't help but notice a hint of curiosity and excitement in his eyes. It seemed like he was intrigued by her choice of meeting place. Caleb raised an eyebrow and looked at Diya with a perplexed expression, wondering why she picked such an unusual spot for their meeting.

"Why here, Diya?" he asked, his voice carrying a hint of apprehension.

With a trembling voice, she asked, "Caleb, is there something you're not telling me? Something about your family?"

Caleb looked surprised, his eyes meeting hers, "What do you mean, Diya?"

"Let me be honest with you, Caleb Baxter. I don't trust you one ounce. so, please, don't lie to me. Tell me the truth," she pleaded.

Caleb sighed as his heart sank, "I swear I do not know what you're accusing my family of."

Diya's skepticism grew stronger, but she decided to trust Caleb, at least for now. She took a deep breath and asked, "Where is the Book of Shadows?"

Caleb's eyes widened in surprise, and he hesitated for a moment before answering, "I have it. I planned to destroy it, Diya. It's dangerous, and I didn't want it to harm anyone else."

Diya's heart raced as she processed his words. Destroying the Book of Shadows seemed like a logical solution, but something deep within her told her to stop him. She believed the book would be useful for his family's dark ritual, but was taken aback when he wanted it gone forever. She did not expect him to respond so fast and wanted to burn the book without even consulting her.

As soon as Caleb uttered the words about his intentions to destroy the Book of Shadows, a deep sense of unease settled in Diya's stomach. The impact of Caleb's decision hit her like a ton of bricks. The Book of Shadows, which was the only source of clues related to the curse that had plagued her family for generations, had been her lifeline. She was unable to fathom the thought of the book being discarded without a second thought, especially when it held the key to the very thing that had caused so much madness in her life.

"Are you sure about this, Caleb? You know what the Book of Shadows has done for me and the rest of your family," Diya asked him with concern.

"I am absolutely sure about this, Diya. I need to do this. It's the right thing to do. It's not safe to keep that book. We cannot have that evil in our house anymore," Caleb explained firmly.

"I can't believe you're calling it your house, Caleb. When did my inheritance become yours?" Diya was taken aback by Caleb's words.

Caleb looked at her and realized his mistake. "I'm sorry, Diya. I didn't mean to say it like that."

"It's okay. I need that book now, Caleb. There are some things I need to figure out before it's too late," Diya looked straight into his eyes as she spoke.

"I'm sorry, Diya. I didn't bring the book. It's still at my house," Caleb replied apologetically.

"I'll come with you to your house to get the book myself," Diya insisted.

"Is there something you're not telling me, Diya?" Caleb questioned her, trying to understand the urgency behind her request.

"What do you mean, Caleb? I don't know what you're talking about," Diya replied, attempting to hide her true intentions.

"I just want you to know that you can trust me, Diya," Caleb said, hoping to reassure her.

"Right. Let's get going then. We need to hurry," Diya smiled weakly, trying to conceal her unease.

Caleb chose to remain quiet and acquiesce to Diya's wishes to prevent any more disagreements about her unrevealed motives. Although he accompanied her back to his home that night, he couldn't shake off the feeling that she was plotting something behind his back. Despite his suspicion, he refrained from prying into her affairs because she appeared unsure about disclosing any information. Furthermore, Caleb was aware that Diya had suffered amnesia due to the accident that he had caused that occurred in his basement, and she had no recollection of their previous encounters.

Caleb couldn't shake off the guilt that consumed him every time he looked at Diya. He knew that her short-term memory loss was his fault, and the weight of it was crushing. Every time he saw her struggling to remember something, he felt like a failure. Despite knowing every detail of the incident, he couldn't bring himself to confess and face the consequences of his actions. It was eating him up inside, and he couldn't wait to find a way to make things right.

Upon Diya's arrival at Caleb's house, he greeted her warmly and invited her to make herself comfortable. However, Diya seemed to be in a hurry and wasted no time in requesting the Book of Shadows from Caleb. Caleb's heart sank as he tried to put on a brave face despite Diya's cold behavior towards him since her memory loss.

He responded with a nod and a smile, but the hurt he felt was all-consuming. It was as if his heart had been ripped out of his chest, leaving him feeling empty and broken. Despite his efforts to stay strong, he couldn't shake the feeling of heartache that consumed him.

Caleb held the book tightly and replied, "Just promise me you won't read it."

Diya nodded, "I promise. But be careful with it, Caleb. I don't want anything to happen to anyone anymore."
