Eventually, their conversation turned to more serious matters. They talked about their families, their friends, and their dreams for the future. Jesse shared stories of his time in law school and the cases he'd worked on, and she told him about her own experiences and the reasons she'd chosen to study law in the first place. They agreed that there was something special about being able to help people through the legal system, even if it wasn't always easy or glamorous.

As the night wore on, they grew tired and nestled closer together, falling asleep in each other's arms.

The sun streamed through the large window, bathing the bed in warm light as they woke up, still wrapped around each other. They spent the morning lazily talking and cuddling, occasionally stealing kisses and caressing each other's skin.

Billie got on top and rested on him, as he rubbed her back, slowly but surely making her more awake. "I've always wondered," she said, her voice still sleepy, "What kind of lawyer you were before you were so famous. Did you start in a big firm? Or was it just you and a desk?"

Jesse chuckled. "It was definitely just me and a desk for a while. I started in a small firm, handling mostly family law cases. You know, divorces, custody battles, that sort of thing. It wasn't glamorous, but it was rewarding in its own way. And then, as I started to get more experience, I started to take on bigger cases, and eventually, my name began to spread."

"So you didn't always want to be famous?" Billie asked, her voice still soft with sleep. Jesse shook his head. "No, not really. I mean, it's not like I didn't enjoy the work. I just didn't expect it to become such a big part of my life. But once I started to see the impact I could have on people's lives, I couldn't help but want to do more. To be the best lawyer I could be."

She nestled deeper into his chest, her breath warm against his skin. "It's funny, I never really thought about what kind of lawyers people started out with. I just assumed they all started big and famous. Like in the fucking movies." He laughed softly.

"Well, not everyone's lucky. Most lawyers have to work their way up. It's not an easy profession, but it's rewarding in its own way. And who knows? Maybe one day you'll be arguing cases in front of the Supreme Court, changing the fucked up world one law at a time."

They lay there for a while, the warmth of their bodies slowly becoming a distant memory as the air conditioning kicked in. The sheets cooled around them, but it didn't matter; they were content.

"When are we picking Mila up?" Billie asked, tracing patterns on his chest with her fingertip.

Jesse glanced at the clock. "We'll have to pick that munchkin up in about an hour. We still have some time. Want to go out for breakfast?"

Billie yawned, stretching her arms above her head. "Sounds good. I haven't had real breakfast food in forever. Just coffee and bagels." She nestled closer to him, her head finding the perfect spot on his chest. "I've missed with my whole entire fucking life and it's been a whole world war for me, with Matthew abusing me and shit."

"I didn't want to ask, 'cause I don't want you thinking 'bout him, but is that why you have bruises on your arms?" Jesse asked, noticing the dark marks on her pale skin. Billie's face flushed red, and she pulled her arm out from under the covers.

"They're nothing. I just. . . he gets a little rough sometimes. I'm used to it."

Jesse sat up, bringing them face to face. His eyes held hers in a way that made her feel like he was seeing right through her. "You don't have to put up with that shit, Billie. Not with me. You can tell me absolutely anything."

She looked into his eyes, feeling the warmth of his words, the sincerity in his tone. "Well yeah it hurts, and it sucks, but. . . it was just so hard."

Jesse kissed her arm gently, his lips tracing the dark marks left by Matthew's fingers. "It hurts me to think of you going through that. I wish I could have been there for you. That motherfucker deserves to be in jail for his whole life."

She smiled, feeling the warmth of his words. "You know, you're the only one who's ever made me feel like that. Like I could be someone. Like I could be worth something. And I don't ever want to lose that."

He smiled and hugged her, breathing in the scent of her hair. "You'll never lose that with me, sweet B. You're my girl, and I'm not letting you go. Not now, not ever." They lay back down, tangled together like two halves of the same person. The air conditioning cooled the room further, but Jesse found himself growing warm just thinking about her. He couldn't believe how lucky he was to have found her, to have her in his life.

"Bitch I'm fucking hungry," Billie said, laughing and rolling away from him, searching for her phone on the nightstand. She found the nearest breakfast place online and made a note of the address. "You up for some fancy breakfast food?" she asked, her stomach growling.

Jesse laughed, sitting up. "Sure, lead the way, my hungry little vixen." He leaned over and kissed her, feeling her body respond to his touch. "Let's get some food and then pick up Mila. How does that sound? You know she can sped a lil' more time with your mom."

They got out of bed, dressed, and headed to the breakfast place Billie had found online. The restaurant was bright and cozy, with a long counter and a few booths scattered around the room. They were seated at a booth near the window, the morning sun streaming in, casting a warm glow over their table. The menu was filled with decadent options, but Jesse insisted they share everything.

"Oh fuck this place is expensive," Billie whined, laughing as she looked over the menu. "I guess we'll just have to share everything, huh?" She glanced at Jesse, taking in his smile and the way his dark hair fell over his forehead. He was so handsome, even with that scruffy beard.

"It's all on me baby. Order whatever the fuck you want. I've got you," Jesse replied, reaching across the table to squeeze her hand. He couldn't help but smile at the way she seemed to light up when he paid attention to her like this.
