CHAPTER 22: THE STRANGE FALL II

“EXCUSE ME? What did you say?” I asked Trick when I heard him saying those.

Kunot-noo ako nitong nilingon bago muling tumingala. “The police said that it was a suicide attempt in which I believe it was not.”

Ang noo ko naman ang kumunot. “Were you here when she fell?”

He nodded. “She didn’t fell, though. Someone pushed her from there.” Tinuro niya ang rooftop ng building. “I didn’t saw who did it, in case you would ask me that.”

“I also believe it’s not suicide,” sang-ayon ko bago bumaling kay Wave na tila may malalim na iniisip habang nakatingin sa hindi kalayuan. “Wave, I think the killer’s next victim is Neon. We need to watch her.”

“That, if she’s still alive after falling from an eight-storey building,” sabat naman ni Trick na ikinalingon ko sa kanya. “There’s a little percent that she will survive, but I’m telling you that she will be in a coma.”

“You speak like a doctor,” ani ko sa kanya.

“This is the second time that I’ve witnessed such incident,” blanko nitong saad. “Same scenario happened to someone I knew before. It feels like déjà vu.”

“Wave? Bakit?” naguguluhan kong tanong at dumungaw sa balikat niya. From there, I realized that he wasn’t looking at the beautiful girl, but at Sir Cavalor who is now walking his way towards us, wearing a grin.

“I just came from Ms Pilgrim’s office earlier before the incident happened, and guess what? You’re doomed,” taas-noong sambit nito sa amin ni Wave nang makalapit na siya. “Ready yourselves because you are about to be separated and will surely face your punishments.”

Wave looked at him blankly. “We. Don’t. Care.” Pinagdiinan niya pa ang pagbigkas no’n tiyaka ako hinila paalis.

“The patient is now comatose because of severe head injuries and might have a memory loss if ever she wakes up,” the doctor informed Neon’s parents. “Even so, she’s lucky that she’s still alive after falling from an eight-storey building. Your daughter is fighting for her life.”

“However, I can’t really tell right now that she’s stable because as I say, she’s in coma and things might happen during comatose state,” dagdag nito. “Let’s just hope and pray that she’ll survive. Excuse me.”

“Kawawa naman si Neon,” bulong ni Hazel. “She’s a bitch, but she doesn’t deserve this.”

“This is obviously not a suicide,” ani Shaun na ikinatingin sa kanya ng magulang ni Neon. “Hindi naman kasi siya suicidal eh. Tiyaka, sinabi ng doctor. She’s fighting for her life. Ibig sabihin ay hindi siya ang nagtangka sa buhay niya.”

“Maging kami ay hindi rin naniniwala na attempted suicide ang nangyari,” wika ng mama ni Neon na mangiyak-ngiyak pa. “I hope that the police will soon catch the real culprit.”

Neon’s parents asked us to look after her while they are gone. I guess, they are really eager to find who did this to their daughter. It might be the killer that we’ve been dealing with for months now.
