Chapter Nineteen-Circles

The school year ended soon after the whirlwind of events died out only a week after. Draco had never returned to school, helping me fall back into the cycle of sleepless nights. I always caught myself clutching the golden snitch necklace he had given me. It was a reminder that a piece of him was always with me. He hadn't vanished without telling anyone. He had written me, explaining his absence and making sure I was okay. I wasn't surprised when he told me he found me bleeding on the floor in front of the Slytherin house. We planned to meet up soon after the school year ended. I somehow convinced him to meet me in a park near where my adoptive parents lived. I would be staying with them for half of July until I would stay with Professor Lupin at the request of Sirius. He wanted me to learn more like the things I had missed out on during the school year. Somehow, it was allowed under Dumbledore's permission, or something like that.

"Mum, dad, I'm about to go out!" I call, grabbing a bag and stuffing everything I needed in it. It always felt wrong, calling them mom and dad, knowing they truly weren't my parents. I put up with it anyways, not wanting to hurt them.

"With who, may I ask?" my adoptive father asked, taking a sip from his coffee.

"Draco," I simply answer, not thinking too much of it.

"NO!" Hermione exclaimed from her spot on the couch, "Jesus, Elora, he is not a good person."

"He seems fine to us," my adoptive mother shrugged.

"What? You've met him?" Hermione seethed, standing up.

"Why yes. He's a very polite boy and took nice care of Elora when he brought her home last summer," she explained.

"I'm running late, so I'll see you all later," I wave before heading out the door to avoid Hermione's frantic questioning. She was trying to find her way back in my life, but I did my best to ignore her. I practically walked out of the room every time she entered. I walked down to the little park and sat on the bench. I fixed the white collar short-sleeved shirt I was wearing and smoothed down my light blue skinny jeans. I hadn't seen Draco in a while, I wanted to look nice when I saw him again as foolish as it may seem.

"Oh my, it's so good to see you again," Draco breathed a sigh of relief from behind me.

"Oh, Draco," I exhaled. I stood up and met him half way. I wasn't a fan of public displays of affection, but I couldn't help but kiss him, finally feeling some normality again, "I've missed you so much."

"The feeling is very well mutual," he mutters as we sit back down.

"Too much has been happening," I swallow, "Too much is different."

"My father was put in Azkaban," he reflects, starting to grow somber.

"My father, my real father, died," I finally tell him, "I'm sorry I kept it from you. I just needed to figure it out on my own."

"It's okay. I understand," he finally speaks after a long pause of silence, "I've been keeping something from you as well."

"What is it, my love?" I ask, lacing his hand in mine. He began to tremble slightly, his gaze directed only on the ground. I brought his hand to mine and place a gentle kiss on his knuckles in an attempt to soothe him.

"I, uh, I have to become a death eater," he shut his eyes as the news simmered in the air, squeezing them tight as if he was pained "I don't want to. I don't want to at all, but I have to. I need to protect my mother now that my father has failed the Dark Lord."

I didn't know what to do, how to feel. The boy had watched out for me all along. He shielded me from the moment he found me in the Leaky Cauldron. He was knight for everyone around him, yet refused to care for himself. He had signed up for a life he didn't want to guard the people he had in his life. Maybe it was cynical, but he had confirmed my emotions right in that very moment.

"Draco Malfoy," I start after a moment of silence, "I love you, with all my heart. I know you don't want this, I know you. I will always be by your side, until the end of the line."

"I love you, Elora, I will do all that is in my might to keep you safe," he vowed, growing emotional. I rested my head on his shoulder, urning for comfort.

"We are both a mess," I joked, letting out a small laugh. Draco smiled, not responding vocally.

"They're starting to search for recruits from Hogwarts. Young faces to help them," he reveals, causing my breath to stop. I was starting to become aware of what was actually happening around us. The Dark Lord was growing in strength, he was coming back.

"Really?" I blurt out randomly. If there ever was a moment where I wanted to smack myself, this would be practically perfect.

"Don't worry. I managed to drive them away from you. They don't know you were adopted. They just think you're a mudblood who can't manage a simple spell," he explained, but then he realized what he said. I didn't take it to heart. I trusted Draco, he wouldn't hurt me.

"Really now? Are those your words precisely?" I teased and he tensed, "I'm only kidding, dear."

"What would I do without you?" he sighed, kissing my forehead. I couldn't help but think the same thing. I was aware that times were changing. I was aware that things would never be the same.

A new year.

A new life.
