(Y/n) was aware that Kuro was hiding his feelings from her as they got closer since they met a year ago when she became his eve. (Y/n) had been openly expressing how she felt about him for a while now but he was still hesitant to say anything. He did pull away a few times when she tried to give him a hug. Eventually, (y/n) decided to not push him or cross any of his boundaries. It seemed like he didn't want to start a relationship that went beyond that of an eve and servamp.
When she got her lead one day, she saw the black cat that urged her to pick a box to choose her weapon. She managed to pick one on her own after a few minutes of trying to decide before she turned to the black cat wanting to ask if he knew about how Kuro truly felt about her. There was a sudden gust of wind and she shielded her eyes, when she looked again the cat was gone. Instead it was replaced by who she thought was Kuro but he didn't look the same. It looked like him except with black hair, horns on his head and stitches on the corners of his mouth. Even his attire was different as it was mostly all dark and black. (Y/n) was even more shocked when she saw the black nails that were embedded in his chest and hands. The encounter was brief before she blinked and was sitting on the floor with her new weapon, it had felt like a dream. Even more so with the way he had looked at her, that smile she couldn't forget that plagued her mind. She had never seen Kuro smile like that and yet she didn't believe that was him. She had so many questions about the cat that all of a sudden had taken the form of a darker version of Kuro. At least that was what she assumed the black cat had turned into.
She tried to ask Kuro about it but he didn't really say much, he just gave her vague answers and stopped answering after a few questions before going back to his games and manga. (Y/n) wasn't sure why she was curious about that inner version of him that she had seen. She recalled the way he had looked at her and that smile as well. It was like he knew something that she didn't in that brief moment their eyes had met before she was pulled back. She thought she would forget and just move on but the memory still lingered. The Kuro she knew was lazy and tended to keep to himself most of the time, that included his feelings as he kept them hidden. It was clear that (y/n) loved him but he still seemed hesitant to take a step beyond their partnership.(Y/n) wanted answers and she knew that cat was the one who had them.
One evening, the rain tapped softly against the windows as (y/n) sat curled up on the couch with Kuro laying beside her with the manga he had been reading over his face. The room was quiet except for the sound of the distant thunder and the rain outside. (Y/n) glanced at him and the questions that had plagued her mind stirred ready to burst out of her head. Was she reading too much into it? Were her feelings onesided? Was she even his type? What did that cat know?
Finally she broke the silence.
"Hey, Kuro?" she asked softly.
He shifted slightly, not removing the book from his face.
"Hmm?"
"That black cat I saw, before it turned into another version of you, it looked like your twin but with very noticeable differences. Is he part of your mind or consciousness?"
There was silence.
Kuro slowly lowered the book from his face and sat up, his eyes half lidded as he had been in the middle of falling asleep.
"You should forget about that." he mumbled.
"But I don't want to forget, I can't. It looked like he wanted to say something to me."
Kuro was quiet again, his gaze drifting towards the rain slick windows when he finally spoke his voice was low.
"That cat represents my inner feelings, it knows how I truly feel about things."
(Y/n) was surprised as he confirmed this, she reached out to hold his hand.
"Can I talk to him again? Maybe he showed himself to me because there was something he needed to tell me."
He glanced down, his thumb brushing lightly over her hand as he thought about this. Before she could say anything more the world around her blurred and found herself in what looked like a graveyard. It was eerie with black candles, worn out tombstones and bushes of black roses along the edge of the graveyard. The sky was cloudy and dark like it was going to rain soon, she looked around looking for that cat again. But she saw nothing, it wasn't until she turned around that she jumped and backed away in fright. He was there again, he had been leaning over her shoulder without saying a word until she turned around.
"You came back."
(Y/n) stepped a bit closer after recovering from her scare.
"Yes, I did. I want to know how Kuro feels about me and you seem to have the answer."
"Oh? So you want to know how he truly feels? He still can't be honest with his feelings it seems." he said, taking her hand and pulling her towards him. (Y/n) wasn't expecting to be pulled into a dance but they waltzed around the cemetery.
"I've been trying to figure out if Kuro loves me, I can't tell and I can't get an answer from him. What about you? How do you feel about me?"
He smiled as he led her in their waltz.
"He's hesitant to tell you how he feels, even though he truly does love you. He's just never had anyone as special as you by his side before."
Their dance came to an end after a moment of silence and he held her hand.
"As for my own feelings, let's just say that I like you."
(Y/n) felt dizzy and the world around her blurred again, she was back in the living room again with Kuro still holding her hand. He knew she had gotten the answer she wanted about his feelings for her but he knew that (y/n) would want to hear it from him. He leaned in close to her, his forehead touching her as they were so close to each other.
"I'm not good at this kind of thing but I.....I love you (y/n)." he said quietly as a light blush formed on his cheeks. (Y/n) smiled and hugged him tight, happy to hear those three little words she had been longing to hear.
"I love you too."
Kuro let out a relieved sigh, he was a little tense at first with the hug but he eventually relaxed. He hugged her close, resting his head on her shoulder.
For once he didn't pull away from her affection.
