Slut, whore and bitch were just some of the names you would hear everyday, from someone that was once your best friend. Brett and his friends started calling you names and saying hurtful things to you, suddenly. You had no idea what provoked this, Brett had a kind heart and had once treated you like family. You walk down the hallway, head down, as usual when you hear Brett and his friends walking towards you.  They all took turns calling you a different name, followed by laughter. Brett passes last, he watches as a tear rolls down your face. You whipped it away quickly, you knew if he saw the comments were getting to you, he would make it worse for you.

He stops and for a split second, you could see a hint of guilt in his eyes. You composed yourself and ducked into the next empty classroom, breathing heavily. You sat with your back against the door, thoughts of your childhood with Brett ran through your mind. He cared for you like a big brother but you remember having a crush on him. The two of you were young so you didn't tell him but as soon Highschool came around, he seemed to hate your guts.

As tears start to roll down your face, you hear a faint knock on the door behind you. "Megan, I know you're in there." You let out your breath when your hear him walk away, completely forgetting about the door on the other side of the room. You see it swing open and Brett step out rom behind it. He walks over to you and sits next to you. "I want to apologize for how I've been treating you."

"It's funny, you want to apologize behind closed doors but as soon as we step out into that hallway, you'll go right back to treating me like shit." He sighs and looks down at his hands, " I know I can promise that won't happen but I also know you won't believe me. Please, let me show you I mean it."

You shake your head and laugh, "How are you going to show me?" He turns his head to look at you, "I don't know but I've realized the only reason I act like I do is because I'm jealous. I'm jealous of the boys that you talk to, and how they will get closer to you than I ever will." You look up to meet his eyes, for the first time in a long time, you could see the boy you used to know. The boy that would carry you on his back when you didn't feel like walking anymore, the boy that protected you when nobody else did.

You lean your head on his shoulder and intertwine your fingers with his, "You know this doesn't make up for putting me through hell for a year." You laugh. He rests his head against yours, "I know but I figured I had to start somewhere."

In the following months, Brett completely changed his behaviour. He would walk with you to school everyday and show up randomly to your house to hangout. His friends had switched up their behaviour as well and while you were hesitant to forgive them, you tried your best to be civil with them. Slowly, Brett earned your trust and forgiveness and eventually asked you on a date.
