Life in the glade was never boring, especially as you were the only girl. You were never short of attention from the boys and help was only an ask away. You had been here for almost a year and in that time everyone had grown to accept you, though with every greenie coming up questions were always asked. A girl? What's she doing here? Why is there only one? All the usual questions. When you first arrived, Alby had set up rules about you for your own safety, with one exception. Gally had caught your eye on your very first day. The builder, who was given the task of showing you around was quite tall and incredibly muscular. You and he clicked pretty early on and not after too long you were calling him your boyfriend. He was very protective of you, not that you minded as there could be unwanted advances from the other gladers, he was always ready to step in if you started feeling uncomfortable.
On this particular day, it was very hot in the glade and the heat was getting to everybody. Your shirt was stuck to your body from all the sweat as you tended to the gardens and you couldn't help but notice the stares you were getting from the boys, even the careful Newt was casting you a stare every so often.
When lunch was finally called you were exhausted and dripping with sweat. Grabbing your water bottle you poured the remaining water over your head eager to cool down. Walking to the kitchen you earned quite a number of wolf whistles, which you could tell was annoying Gally. Sitting down next to him at the table, you couldn't help but notice how aggravated he was.
"Hey babe. How's your day been?" You placed a hand on his forearm which he rudely shrugged off.
"Fine." He answered gruffly.
"What's wrong?" You shuffled around in your seat so you could face him.
"I-"
"I what?" You looked at him quizzically.
"I think you should go change."
"Why? I don't want to have to wash two sets of clothes at the end of today."
"It's just that you're... well... distracting everybody."
"How am I possibly distracting everybody? I'm disgustingly sweaty!"
"Well... Ah I'm not gonna argue with you on this. You'll see soon enough." With that said, Gally got up from the table and left.
As the afternoon wore on, tempers were flaring and egos were clashing, especially in the direction of the builders. You could hear the shouts from Gally in particular. Out of the corner of your eye you could see the latest greenie, Thomas, approaching you.
"Hi Y/N."
Standing up from your garden you replied, "Hi Thomas. Anything I can help you with?"
"Uh no. I just wanted to say you are looking really pretty today." You could see a slight blush on his cheeks. Behind Thomas you could see Gally watching you.
"Aw, thank you. Means a lot." You gently placed you hand on Thomas's shoulder and gave it a light squeeze before turning back to your work.
You heard the rumble of footsteps with a "Hey" before turning just in time to see Thomas being thrown by Gally.
"Keep your hands of my girlfriend, greenie!" Gally was standing over Thomas threateningly.
"Gally! What the hell?" You shoved Gally off Thomas.
"I'm just trying to keep you safe from the likes of him!"
"What makes you think I need protecting, huh?"
"Come on Y/N!"
"Oi, you two. Separate until you both calm down." Newt stepped between you and Gally forcing you apart. You turned and walked into the dead heads.
You stomped your way deep into the dead heads and sat down in front of a big tree. You brought your knees up to your chest, wrapping your arms around yourself. You tried to fight back the tears but they were too much for you.
You heard footsteps approaching you.
You called out, "Go away."
"Y/N, it's me." Gally's voice called back.
"Go away, Gally."
"Y/N, please. Just listen." You turned away from him. He sat down next to you. "Y/N, I'm sorry. I just want you to be safe."
"I can take care of myself." You pouted.
"I know you can, I'm sorry. I just want to take care of you." Gally wrapped his arms around you pulling you to his chest. "I'm so sorry."
"I know. Me too." You sniffled.
"I love you, Y/N. And you know I would never do anything to hurt you."
"I love you too." You tilted you head up and pressed a kiss to his lips.
You both sat in the dead heads for a while enjoying the comfort you gave each other, knowing that in Gally's arms, you were the safest you ever could be.
