Chapter Thirteen - The Good and The Bad
It was now 5:05 and Megan was hiding under the bleachers.
She had been there since 4:30 so that she wouldn't get there at the same time as Tommy.
Tommy had arrived at five to five and for the past ten minutes Megan has been watching him...
"Hey" Megan called out from under the bleachers as Tommy turned around.
"What were you doing under there? You know what, never mind." There was a awkward silence as Tommy walked towards the bleachers and sat down next to where Megan was hiding.
Then Tommy blurted out "I'm so sorry"
Megan looked at Tommy. He was slumped over and looked at Megan with a sincere face of apology.
"I don't know what was up with you this morning but I do know I should have stuck up for you at the AIS and I'm so sorry at I didn't."
Megan and Tommy stayed like that for a little while.
Megan finally came out from under the bleachers and Tommy stood up to look at her.
They just stood, and slowly, the silence turned from awkward to comfortable.
By 5:30 Megan breathed a big sigh and sat down, Tommy followed.
"So, today at the AIS..." Megan looked up at Tommy with a smile and continued "what did I do wrong? I mean, how can I show them that I can play?"
"Well, you could start with not falling on your arse." The two of them laughed.
Tommy stood up and extended his arm out to help Megan up.
Once they were both up they started towards the soccer net.
Tommy picked up a ball and put it in front of Megan, then he walked to the front of the net and nodded.
"Ok Megan, how about this? You stay there and we'll just shoot goals. Nothing more and nothing less. Just you and me, for as long as you like." Tommy gave Megan his oh so famous smile and Megan nodded.
It was 7pm when the sun started to go down and the two of them headed back to the bleachers.
"So...you do realise that for the last hour and half I think you missed like 4 goals. That's it and I was goalie. That awesome!"
Megan was drinking some water when Tommy went in for a hug.
Though it was more of a tackle than a hug and soon enough the two of them were on the ground covered in water.
"Tommy!" Megan squealed at the surprise attack.
"Whoops?" Was all Tommy could say but that wasn't enough for Megan.
"You're so gonna pay for that..." Megan was already on her feet running towards the taps to refill her drink bottle.
By the time Tommy reached her she whipped around and threw all of it on him.
The night slowly got darker as Tommy and Megan's water fight progressed.
It was 8:30 when the two of them finally started to make their way home.
"Hey, thanks for today. I had fun...eventually." Megan looked over at Tommy who was walking her home.
"Don't worry about it. I had fun too." Tommy and Megan walked in silence until C&D's was in view.
Megan turned around to look at Tommy. "Well, I guess I'll see you tomorrow. 4:30?"
"Yeah sounds good to me. Good night."
"Night"
Megan turned around and made her way down the street. Her face was lit up with a smile from ear to ear.
It lasted all the way until she got up to her room from the ladder.
The window was open which was unusual but Megan didn't even notice.
That was until she got in bed and began to drift off before she noticed something.
Jess wasn't there.
Megan got up and saw that her bed was stripped and her draws empty.
She went outside and saw Claudia talking to Benjamin and Sam who were other boys at the orphanage, both of them were holding their bags and belongings.
When Claudia saw Megan she told the boys to go downstairs and walked towards her.
"Where have you been?" Claudia tried to be strict but Megan tell she was upset.
"Out. What's going on?" Megan was getting worried.
"C&D's is closing down Megan. Over the next 6 months everyone will be resettled into either a foster home or another orphanage."
