Life can be compared to many things. I've heard many metaphors and have come up with a few of my own to visualize at least some of the things that get thrown at us. Life can be compared to:
Roller coasters - They have lots of ups and downs. There is a calm period where the coaster is climbing up. As it climbs the suspense and dread is building, because you know that it will plummet down. You're at the top, and then down it goes. You feel a rush of terror, but it's soon over. You can relax knowing that you're okay for the time being. The coaster climbs again and the cycle repeats.
Volcanoes - There are many types of volcanoes. But the ones I'm talking about are the ones that build up tons of pressure over time. Sooner or later it can't handle it anymore, and it explodes. Lava shoots out of the Earth, similar to someone being on a rampage.
Dams - Dams are built strong to keep water held back. But over time they are weekend, or can have a sudden disaster at once. Things keep chipping away at it or the whole thing can burst because of a single strong event. This can also be applied to someone who needs to breakdown and cry after withholding tears for so long.
Earthquakes - These are almost unpredictable. The plate on the Earth slowly shift and change over time. Someone who has been your closest friends for years, can slowly change. They may change to the point to where they are not the person you once knew. At some point, there will be a massive change and many things are affected as a result. That is the earthquake.
Avalanches - You have to be very cautious when there is a possibility of an avalanche. One wrong step, or in this case one wrong word and/or action, will cause everything to come tumbling down. Once it's in motion, nothing will be able to stop it. The only thing you can do is ride it out and hope there isn't too much damage done.
Flowers - When you like a flower, you pick it. Thus causing it to die. But when you love a flower, you water it and take care of it to keep it alive and beautiful. The sad thing though is sometimes another flower will come along and get more love. So the previous flower is forgotten about.
