Throwback to season 4 after "It's the Great Pumpkin Sam Winchester!" When Cas still had a stick up his butt. Plus I've been so reminisce-y about when Cas had all his powers...
Castiel disappeared without a sound and when Dean turned to look at the park bench beside him, the Angel was gone. He sighed at their previous conversation. It was odd really, that that stiff as frick Angel had entrusted Dean with his secret that could get him killed: his doubt. But again Dean felt almost special that he, of all people, had been deemed worthy by Castiel, high and mighty Angel of the Lord to keep this secret.
Smiling without know it, Dean got up off the park bench not noticing that Castiel stood invisible a few feet away. The Angel did nothing, save the fact that he was carving the face of such a man into his brain. He didn't know why he had trusted Dean of all the humans he knew to keep this deadly secret silent. It just felt right that Dean knew he was an angel with a bent halo, not a "hammer".
The hunter walked easily towards his car and drove off to pick up Sam and go crash at Bobby's place instead of another cheap motel room. While he drove back he suddenly felt the strongest urge to turn to see who was sitting next to him, he couldn't shake the feeling that he was being observed. Not watched, but looked at with care not creepiness. Turning to see nothing he still gave a little smile to the empty space, even though he couldn't see him Dean somehow just knew the Angel was sitting there.
Castiel's vessel's heart nearly stopped when Dean looked right into his eyes and smiled at him. He held the hunters gaze for a second or two before departing for good but not before he topped off the gas in the car. Just to make sure they wouldn't have to be delayed on their drive to the older hunters house.
He didn't understand why, even in Angel form, he felt an odd tightening in his chest whenever he dropped in unseen and Dean smiled. If he truly was broken he didn't want to be fixed, if it meant he would stop feeling like this when he saw Dean. And that thought scared him much less than it should have.

Dean felt the warm presence of Cas, his new preferred name for the Angel, finally vanish for good. As he and Sam checked out and hit the road Dean simply stated along the stretches of highway in silence. Just thinking about why that stick-up-his-butt Angel made him feel like a tween girl at a Justin Beiber concert. They finally arrived at Bobby's house and after sharing a meal and a couple of beers Dean excused himself to go outside. Leaning against an old junk car at the bottom of a pile of similar scrap metal Dean gazed up at the sky. Feeling a little foolish he raised a half-drunken beer to the stars and said
"For all its worth Cas... I'm glad you're not a hammer"Unnoticed a few feet away Cas had returned to the hunter to see that he had made it to Bobby's safe and sound. When he heard Dean's declaration he stopped dead in his tracks. It was that single moment he decided that Dean was different. And that Dean Winchester, even though Dean himself didn't believe it, deserved to be saved.
