Chapter 1

Sparks flew as I felt soft lips press against mine. I felt a burning desire grow in the pit of my stomach. I forced my eyes open, that's when my gaze met crystal blue eyes. They were so blue that I could drown just looking at them. Before I could even register what happened, my hand shot out of the water and slapped him across the face. A red hand print was imprinted on the boy's right cheek, and judging by the way my hand was stinging, it had to have hurt.

He imminently pulled back, I could see hurt flash across his face before he veiled it up and wore a blank expression. "What the hell do you think your doing?" I hissed, unknowingly I lifted the tips of my fingers and gently touched them to my lips. There was no denying how badly my wolf wanted to kiss this stranger back, I sniffed the crisp air, he wasn't from my pack. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I knew he was my mate, but I pushed the thought away.

"What? I'm just kissing my mate." He said crookedly smirking. His eyes glimmered with life as he feverishly ran a hand through his golden blonde hair. Droplets of water ran down his chest and my gaze followed them. To say at the least, he was easy on the eyes, I could feel my cheeks faintly redden at the thought. I've only met him a few minutes ago and I'm already shamelessly staring!?

Pushing my thoughts away, I glanced up at him, I could feel his eyes drifting on my face. Suddenly, after realizing the full extent to my situation, I panicked. I mean who wouldn't? a lot could go wrong when you and your mate are both naked next to each other, I purposely pushed space between us so that the water rose up to my neck, he didn't need to see my body bare. "What pack are you from?" I asked, trying to control my ragged breath. His delicious smell coiled around my body, I could feel my insides tighten just at the sight of him.

"Midnight."

I froze, he was apart of the rival pack. No my mate can't be the enemy, he chuckled at the sight of shock on my face. "What about you?" He asked, his hot breath against my neck, sending tingles down my spine. "Guess." I said, a smile playing on my lips.

"Ahh well since you are obviously not from my pack, Im guessing Sunrise?" He mumbled, scratching the back of his head awkwardly. I watched as his forearm flexed with the motion his protruding muscles catching my eye. Without a word, I grinned "What's your name?"

"Haden. Yours?"

"Kayla."

Haden repeated my name several times as if trying to memorize it. I snickered at the way he was concentrating so hard. He raised an eyebrow at me before chuckling, his expression suddenly turned blank and I knew someone was talking to him through his mind link. "Hey it was cool meeting you, Haden." I reply coolly, putting extra emphasis on his name. I inwardly chuckled, at least my voice doesn't give away my nervous Demeanor.

Without looking back I hesitantly swam to shore, digging my feet into the muddled sand at the shoreline. I easily hoisted myself out of the lake as I had done time and time again, but as soon as my body was out of the water, I realized that I was naked. My face flushed red as I tried to cover myself with my hands, "Stop!" Haden growled "I am your mate, you don't need to cover your body!" He snarled at me in a matter-of-fact way.

I smirked before quickly dressing myself behind a few shrubs. "Hey, Haden can you do me a favor?" I asked

"If it's hooking your bra, it would be my pleasure." He replied chucking.

I rolled my eyes at his comment

"No. But could we not tell anyone we are mates?" I asked, my mouth running dry after the words had escaped my lips.

I came out from the bushes and approached Haden. He was already dressed, and he sat by the lake's edge dangling his feet in the water. He patted the spot next to him and I hesitantly made my way toward him, narrowing my eyes suspiciously.

"C'mon I don't bite." Haden shrugged, scooting over to make room. My gaze met Haden's sharp blue eyes, embarrassed I looked into the water, I could already feel the heat rushing into my cheeks. When I finally had enough courage to glance up, I saw Haden nodding his head. His playfulness disappeared and now replaced with a blank, unreadable face.

"Can you come to the lake tomorrow?" His growled, his voice holding a raspy quality. I looked into his perfect blue eyes. My brain told me to say no, but my wolf howled inside of me, begging me to just give him a chance. "Fine at 2:00" I murmur with a sigh, I stood up to leave, but Haden grabbed my wrist with his iron grip. He forced me to look into his eyes before leaning towards me and brushing his lips against mine. My breath quickened, as I took in his intoxicating smell.

I pulled away and ran back into the forest, I didn't care where I was going! I just needed to take my mind off of all of this. I was just expecting a nice relaxing time at the lake, but now my life was even more confusing. Staring up at the darkening clouds, I could feel droplets of rain pelting my already damp skin. I loved the smell of fresh musky evergreens in the rain. The rain pounded against my hair and trickled onto my skin. I smiled staring up at the dark puffy clouds.

To be honest, I don't know how long I stood there. I replayed the memory of Haden brushing his lips against mine over and over again, I didn't want it to end. With a sigh I disappeared into the dark forest and made my way back towards my house. The house looked different in the rain, it looked crumbled and sad against the dark thunderous clouds.

When I entered, I saw Jake, the Alpha of the pack lounging on the couch. He was young for an alpha, only 19 Jake was one year older than me. It must have been hard for him, last year his father was attacked my rogues and he was left to be the alpha. I looked into his milky hazel eyes, he grinned at me, even when I had a mate I couldn't help but notice how attractive Jake was. "Your dad is out he told me to go with you into town for food." Jake said, with that huge grin still plastered on his face. "Oh okay." I said, a small smile toying at the corner of my lips.

We drove into town in comfortable silence, Jake and I have known each other for such a long time that we no longer needed to make an effort to talk to each other. We walked into the grocery shop joking with each other, it was like Jake's happiness was contagious. Jake pulled out the grocery list and read aloud, " Greg wants lucky charms." I laughed as we pushed the grocery cart and took turns riding in it while grabbing the food that the pack needed.

"Crap." Jake muttered into my ear "There is Veronica, please pretend to be my girlfriend please?" Jake asked pleading and pouting his bottom lip at me. Veronica was his very needy ex, and Jake didn't like dealing with her. "Fine." I replied smirking, I could never keep a smile off my face when I was around Jake. "Veronica's coming quickly kiss me!" Jake loudly whispered. "Ja-Jake I don't think that's a good..." Before I could even finish he wrapped his arms around my waist and pressed his lips against mine.

We were interrupted by a low growl, I turned my head and my gaze dropped to a muscular figure standing at the entrance of the isle. Haden.
