Chapter 20

My thoughts were more jumbled than usual as I took off into the empty night, I barely even noticed the rain pouring down. I couldn't even get myself to focus my surroundings, I went through the basic motions and kept running.

I didn't care where I was headed. I just wanted to get away from everything, I forced my eyes to stare straight into the dim night, I knew that if I had even glanced back and saw the pain etched in Haden's face, I wouldn't have been able to leave.

I hastily shot forward, closing my eyes and listening to the thundering clouds, as beads of rain pelted my skin I don't think that I would be strong enough to give up Haden, I shivered partially from the ice water seething down my clothes, but also from the pain bubbling inside of me.

My gut churned with unshed tears, it felt as though something was off. What did I expect? Haden to just run after me and comfort me? My breaths came out shaky, I was loosing the power to run. Before I even knew it, my aching legs gave out underneath me.

I could feel mud clinging to the fabric of my clothes as my state of mind slowly slipped away, my whole body trembled as my eyes met the shining glowing stars. You see a star is a metaphor for death, even as you are looking at them in the midnight sky, no matter how bright they are, they're already dead. I clasped my knees and hugged them to my chest, trying to find comfort.

Emptiness filled my heart in a way that I had never experienced before, it was as of nothing could fill the void that Haden had filled. It was at that moment I knew, I loved Haden Wells.
