Chapter 11

HADEN'S POV

My teeth ripped through his shoulder, the bitter taste of blood sprayed In my mouth. He released a whimper and backed up in defeat. "If I see you again I will finish the job! Now scram!" I snarled at him snapping my jaw protectively.

My mate was more important than some disgusting rouge, I watched him run until he was out of sight. Jake watched me, there was a stillness in the air as I bent over to look at Kayla.

Jake looked at me, I could feel anger flash through my eyes. "He marked her." I said shaking my head in disbelief. I stroked Kayla's mark and held her in my arms, the emptiness shot through my heart at the sight of her limp body.

It was as if the fight had been sucked out of her, hanging in the middle between life and death. My eyebrows were furrowed and I could feel my face being contorted into a frown. Jake looked at me quizzically before saying " There is only one thing that can break a marking bond, that's a true mates mark."

I massaged my temple, I knew Kayla would not approve of this, but she was loosing blood rapidly. It hurt to know that I had not claimed her before some disgusting rouge had. I cradled her frail body against me, our faces were inches apart and I stared at her full lips.

I slowly nuzzled my face into the crook of her neck and breathed in her sweet scent, I could feel Jake staring at me as the realization dawned on him.

I let my wolf out and sharp canines ripped through my gums "I'm sorry it had to be this way Kayla." I whispered gently whispered into her ear.

KAYLA'S POV

I warmth flooded my body. My eyes were too tired to be forced open, I snuggled into the heat and breathed in the delicious smell, it clouded my mind like a fog. My neck began to pulse slightly, and a mild pain ached through my skin.

I opened my eyes slowly, my mind was groggy and my head was throbbing. My vision was blurry, but I knew who was there from the scents. Memories started flooding in from the rouge attacking me, it took all my power just to restrain a whimper. "H-h-he marked me." My voice came out a barely a whisper.

I was laying on Haden's lap, his nose was scrunched up because of the small smile playing on his lips. Haden's face was unreadable, but his blue eyes shimmered with happiness. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion, was he happy that the rouge had marked me? "It's okay Kayla, shh it's all better." Haden cooed, rocking me in his arms.

I finally laid eyes on Jake, his face was emotionless, but his eyes flickered with anger and pain. Haden cupped my face in his hands, and his lips brushed against my neck as he murmured, "Jake knows."
