Chapter 18

Rob and I walked back over to everyone else who seemed to have forgotten about the jellyfish.

Alex and Sarah joined us finally. I shook my head in disgust as they kissed again. What does he see in her? I closed my eyes for second then opened them back up.

“Want to go somewhere? Like go to get an ice cream or something?” Tyler asked as he threw a rock into the water.

“Yeah, there is this really good ice cream place called Sherman’s,” Rob exclaimed and we all nodded our heads in agreement.

“I’m tired,” I yawned.

“You can ride on my back walking up there,” Alex offered with a smile. I smiled back and was about to say okay but Sarah interrupted.

“Alex carry me!” she shouted. I gritted my teeth and Alex gave me an apologetic look and then Sarah jumped on his back.

“Someone want a piggyback ride? I know I’m not Alex but…,” Austin offered. I smiled and nodded. He bent down and I jumped on him and he carried me up the sandy hill to the parking lot where our cars were parked.

It was the same car arrangement. Rob, Alex, Tyler, and I in one and Sarah, Alex, and Zach in the other. I hopped in the front seat before Tyler could get there.

“I wanted to sit there,” he complained. I stuck my tongue out at him.

“Too late,” I smirked and shut the car door. He lazily got into the back with Alex.

Rob started the car and followed Sarah’s car to the ice cream place. No one really talked for a few minutes. It was a little awkward actually. Because Rob like me who liked Alex who thought I liked Tyler. So I don’t know it was kind of weird.

“Olivia are you okay? You ran away from us at the beach, same with you Rob,” Alex asked.

“You ran away too,” I mumbled.

“Oh yeah with Sarah. Is that what this is about? Sarah?!” Alex shouted with anger.

“Not everything has to be about her!” I yelled back. Alex didn’t say anything back. Either he was mad or sad, I didn’t know. But I didn’t want to look at him right then. No one talked after that…

I sighed and looked out the window. I came here to start a new life without Sarah and Zach but they just came back in.

“We’re here,” Rob said and we all got out of the car, not talking. I slammed the car door shut and walked over to Austin.

“Everything alright?” he asked and I nodded with a smile.

“Good, come on,” he stated and we walked into the shop with everyone following us. When we walked inside, only a few people were in there. There were shiny silver tables with funky chairs. There was a lady behind a desk who smiled at us nicely.

“Hello, how may I help you?” she asked.

“Um I’ll take vanilla with a waffle cone,” Austin said then pointed to me.

“Birthday cake with a waffle cone,” I ordered then everyone else said what they wanted and she went into the kitchen. We all went to go sit at separate tables.

Sarah and Alex sat at a table for two and Austin, Rob, and I sat down in a booth and Tyler and Zach in a two one.

I tapped my fingernails on the table.

“Are you sure you’re okay Olivia?” Austin asked.

“Yeah you acting a little weird at the beach,” Rob stated.

“I’m fine, guys, honestly,” I lied then went back to my finger tapping.

“Look Olivia we’re cousins, we can tell each other anything! Why do you keep lying to me?” Austin asked.

“Remember that day after school right before you told Alex that I liked Tyler? When you asked me if you could tell me something and I said yes but then you were nevermind and ran away? I’m not the only one lying here,” I protested.

“But that was something personal okay?!” he shouted.

“Maybe this is personal too,” I muttered.

“Look, I’ll tell you if you tell me,” he explained. I looked over to Rob then back at Austin.

“I’m sorry, I will tell you, it’s just right now isn’t the time,” I exclaimed.

“Olivia, it can’t be that bad!” Austin yelled. I shook my head rapidly.

“Austin, you probably wouldn’t even believe me, or you would just tell people like Alex and then Alex would get mad at me because he wouldn’t believe it and… look I’m sorry I will tell a different time ok?” I blurted out.

“Olivia please,” Austin whispered.

“Au-.”

“I’ve got a vanilla waffle cone and a birthday cake waffle cone!” the lady shouted. Saved by the lady at the desk. I quickly got up and got my ice cream then walked back. Rob avoided my gaze. He was probably mad that I was lying to them.

“This is good ice cream,” Austin mumbled and licked his ice cream and I licked mine as well.

“I’ll get it out of you,” he smirked.

“Good luck with that,” I laughed.
