Silence fills the car, only the sounds of our awkward breathing, like we both felt we were being too loud. The dark sky, seeping in my windows, the beautiful luminous glow of the full moon making me smile in contentment.

"So are we going to talk, or just keep sitting here awkwardly?" I ask quietly, not wanting to startle him

"Can we go for a drive?" Jackson says quietly, his eyes still downcast at his shoes as if they were the most interesting shoes he'd ever stumbled upon

"Yeah sure, where do you want to go?" I ask, the realization that I have no idea where anything is, hitting me like a tonne of bricks.

"Anywhere."

After driving around for 45 minutes, I pull into a 24/7 diner. Literally the only thing I've seen for miles. We don't have a lot of backroads around here from what I've heard and yet I've still managed to find myself in the middle of nowhere.

"Get out." I say loudly after realizing he is not getting the hint

"What?"

"I'm hungry" I laugh "come on Jax. Ill even buy you a donuuuuut..."

"You know the way to my heart, James." He says, the sadness still extremely evident in his tone

After our waitress takes our order I watch as she walks away quickly, no doubt having served for a long time. She reminded me a lot of my nana, or at least what I remembered of her. The way her long silver hair cascaded down her back, her deep set smile lines, the way her eyes shone with a type of kindness that you rarely find anymore, there was something familiar about her

"Thank You Jax." I say putting my hand over his, trying to break the awkward silence

"Its not something you should have to thank me for." He says pulling his hand away, the undoubtable feeling of hurt that coursed through my now bare hand

I fold my hands quickly back up on my lap, almost feeling shamed. He acted like he was repulsed by my touch

"I appreciate you having my back."

"I always will."

The waitress, Nancy,  comes by setting down our muffins and coffees offering us a small smile.

"Thank you." I say as I take a sip of the hot liquid, reveling in the feeling of it running down my cold throat "So,"

"Danielle?"

"Yeah?" My name coming out of his mouth sounds like a diamond wrapped in gold...

What is happening. No Danielle. Bad girl.

"Can we call a truce, I like this. Whatever this is." He says looking up at me offering me a small smile "not that this is anything, I didn't-"

"Truce." I say taking another sip of coffee, "So when is your and Ty's birthday?" I ask changing the subject

"September 4th. Your's?"

"Well Ryder's is on September 6th and mine is on the 7th. The 4 or so minutes there really screwed me over." I can't help but smile at him "its kind of cool though, twins, but also get my own birthday."

"You should smile more. You have a really nice smile." He says looking at me "princess eh, always so spoiled!"

"I do smile, just not around you." I say laughing "hey now, it's not my fault that my dad loves me more than Ryder. I am cuter."
