Retrograde amnesia, a lack of memory of events preceding an injury to the head. This type of amnesia usually occurs after car accidents.
In this case Aria could only remember things from when she was born(which wasn't much) to the age she was 13 years old. The rest of the years were lost and the doctors told the Montgomery family that it could either be weeks or years before that memory would come back. Of course there was also the case that it would never come back.
All the girls had been in to see Aria, she recognised them all except it was harder for her to put the name to Ali's face. An hour or so had past and they all left apart from Alison. As soon as she walked out of Aria's room the girl noticed Ezra sat holding his face in his hands.
"Are you intending on spending the rest of the night...sorry day now, here?" The blonde girl asked as she took a seat down next to him.
"I can't go in there. She didn't know who I was Ali. She has no clue who I am." It hurt the man to close his eyes, they were sore from crying and then overwhelming tiredness.
"She'll remember. Nobody could forget you Ezra, just give it time. Speak to her." Alison stood up and bent down to place a kiss on the mans forehead.
"She loves you, she couldn't forget that forever even if she wanted to."
And with that Alison was gone, taking the advice onboard Ezra walked into Aria's room.
"We'll give you some space." Ella coughed a little indicating for Byron to follow her.
"Hi again." Aria smiled slightly placing the magazine she was holding down, completely oblivious to how much this was paining Ezra.
"Hello." The man took a seat with a sigh next to the hospital bed. Soon enough a silence filled the room, Ezra had so much to say but couldn't say any of it.
"You're my boyfriend. Or were my boyfriend. We had just got back together? That's what I've been filled in on."
Fragile, Ezra just nodded and didn't bother looking at Aria, he knew how this situation was going to end but the thought of it made him feel physically sick.
Aria's reached over her hand showing her blue painted fingers and ran her fingers through the mans curly hair. The man leaned into her touch before taking her hand and wrapping his fingers round hers. This was the end, Ezra knew that Aria wouldn't want to spend time on things she couldn't remember, on wasted memories. She would want to carry on and start fresh, and by the time Aria would have even remembered Ezra it would be too late, she would have moved on and the memories would mean nothing.
"I don't want to lose you Aria and I know that's selfish of me, trying to make you stay with me but I don't care if I'm selfish. I need you in my life and I will wait, I will wait however long it takes. I will wait till you remember, and if you don't I will make you fall back in love with me and...I know how this ends there's no point me trying."
Letting go of her pale small hands Ezra stood up and quickly began to pace to the door.
"Stay."
Ezra spun on his heel and looked over to the girl confused.
"All I know is that you mean a lot to me, that much that I would do anything to fight for you. This is me fighting. Stay."
