Chapter 9

Rachael's PoV

Questions flew in my mind.
Are we in danger?
Is my family okay?
Are we moving again?
Does that mean I won't see Ethan again?
Did something happen to my mum?
My dad?

I was probably quite readable since Ethan could tell I was having a battle with the questions in my mind. He took my hand in his and gave it a squeeze.
"Everything will be alright." He said.
"How can be so sure?" I questioned.
"You just have to have some faith. With the good there is bad and with the bad there is good." He replied.
"I never picked you out for a optimistic person" I said.
He gave me a wink and a smirk.

I watched the trees rush by. Then the shops. Then houses. Then my house.
Ethan parked his car behind my parents' and we got out. I could hear the faint sounds of chatter from my parents, thanks to my good hearing.

They stared at us once we walked in. The way they stared at me kind of scared me. If my parents are looking at me with so much concern it must be bad. Ethan took my hand in his again and gave it a squeeze in reassurance. The silence and my parents constantly staring at me and Ethan was freaking me out. And frustrating me.

"Just spit it out already!" I snapped.
My dad sighed and sat down. Me, Ethan and my mum did the same.
"Rachael... We've got a problem. It has something to do with you and Ethan; more your than him. We have located some unwanted at your school." My dad said.

Unwanted? At my school? What does that mean?

"What does that mean?" Ethan asked. Wait I was just thinking that or did I say that out loud?
My dad looked from me to Ethan then me till his eyes finally stopped on Ethan. "It means she needs protection but it also means that you guys can't be seen together as a couple at school. No one can find out that you guys are soul mates right now." He looked back at me. "Ethan will be the only one able to protect you but there will also be others looking out for you just not as much as Ethan should be. You'll meet the others on Monday." Said my dad.

Wow. I don't even know what to think. Or what to say. My mum spoke instead. "I know you've got even more questions now Rachael but I need you to trust us but most of all trust Ethan. Unless Ethan says the person is okay don't trust them. We don't know who really is the unwanted at your school and we can't take any risks. Ethan you know we're going to have to do a spell on you and Rachael to bind your souls together. It's not a complete bind like it's supposed to be but at least this way you will be able to feel her feelings and locate her if she's in trouble. Also you guys will be able to communicate in each others' mind."

I nodded my head in understanding but Ethan stayed quiet. "Ethan what's wrong?" I asked.
"I just don't like the fact that someone is after us. You more than me." He said.
"We'll be fine." I said. That's all I could really say. I don't know what's going to happen and I don't know why. Just then the door bell rang.

"Who's that?" I asked.
"The person that's going to do the spell. He's an old friend don't worry." Said my mum.
My mum went to get the door and we all waited for the person to come in. I could tell from what the person was wearing that he was a warlock. He had raven black hair and green and brown eyes. His right eye was green and left was brown. "This is Alexander." My mum said.
"Nice to meet you Rachael and Ethan you can call me Alex." Said Alexander.

"Okay Alex how's this going to go?" Asked Ethan.
"Well I'm going to blend these spices and plants to us in order to bind you guys together. However won't be as strong as the proper bond you guys will have when you made love to each other." He explained. My dad coughed awkwardly at the 'make love' bit and I could feel my cheeks heating up. Ethan winking at me but that didn't help calm my red cheeks or the butterflies in my stomach. "Don't worry I already know you're not ready. I'm okay with waiting for you and I've already had this 'conversation' with your dad." Whispered Ethan so only I heard him.

Alex continued "I've got all the ingredients I need." He read them out as he took them out the bag I never saw on him till now. "Red string, cinnamon, a drop of my blood to give the spell more power, basil for the love bit, anise for protection and garlic cloves to keep bad spirits away." He said.

"Now for the spell. Rachael I need you and Ethan to stand opposite each other Ethan north and Rachael south. I'm going to tie this red string to both your thumbs on your left hands. You might see things around you but don't be alarmed it would just be the spell working. Don't move from your positions till I say you can and do not take your hands out of each other's okay?" We both nodded our heads.

He mixed the ingredients and started sprinkling them over our tied thumbs and joint hands and chanted "Adiuro vos per fortia vires Rachael  Ethan terra, ignis, aqua et aer ligare debita processus usque in finem in unum spiritum referatur. Dum haec in usu coccinum erit." (I bind you Rachael with Ethan using earth, fire, water and air binding you together with spirit till the final binding process takes place. Till then this red thread will be in use.)

I watched as the spell swirled around us. I could smell the different elements. I looked down at mine and Ethan's joined hands. The red thread had now turned silver and circled us as if it was doing the final bit of the spell. Then it stopped.
