Cause I will stand by you
I will help you through

"Danny, I think she's too young," I said. I coddled our daughter in my arms. I rocked her from side to side, trying to calm my nerves. We were standing in front of one of the scariest Haunted Houses in Massachusetts.

"My little girl is brave though," Danny said reaching out for Elayne. She gladly crawled into his arms. She probably thought that he could protect her better than I could. She was right. I was so scared and Danny was at ease. "Right Elayne?" Danny asked poking at her side. She cowardly nodded her head. Danny lived for the adrenaline rush while I like to stay in my comfort zone. I gulped. "Morgan don't be such a chicken," he said lightly shoving me.

"I'm not a chicken, but I just think she is too little," I said kissing Elayne's cheek. I brushed her blonde hair out of her face to reveal her deep brown eyes that she inherited from Danny. "Why couldn't you bring Julian or something?" I asked as the line inched closer. We were next.

"Because Julian won't be as fun to comfort when he gets scared," Danny smirked. I laughed at the thought of the wide receivers wrapping their arms around each other walking throughout the house. Their masculinity on the football field would wash away once they got in the house. This seemed to comfort me a little bit. The worker took our tickets and we made our way to the entrance. My heart was racing. My hands instinctively wrapped around Danny's waist as the room got dark and the music chilled my bones. It was hauntingly beautiful, almost tragic.

We barely made it two feet into the house when we were greeted by a masked man. The mask was covered in blood and I saw Elayne bury her head into Danny's neck. His father instincts kicked in as his grip around her tightened. "They aren't real, Laynie," I coaxed her.

We continued through the house and were met by many other faces. We got to the mirror room. This part always freaked me out. Danny always dragged me to haunted houses with him and I could almost predict what was coming next. "Daddy!" Elayne shrieked. She saw one of them coming in the mirror. Her tiny arms wrapped around Danny's neck even tighter. Danny had one arm around me and her. She was like me and this was her least favorite part.

"Elayne, it's okay," Danny said pushing his way past the zombie looking person. "See we did it," Danny said as we got out of the mirror room. I uncovered my eyes to see that he was right. The mirrors were gone.

Something fell from the feeling and landed on Elayne's head. She screamed again. "It's just a snake. See?" Danny said coolly. He threw the snake aside and continued walking. The house didn't phase him at all. The fear of not knowing what was coming next didn't scare him at all. "Daddy's here to protect you. You're fine. Right?" Danny whispered in our little girl's ear. She nodded and peaked her head up from his chest. I smiled at her to let her no everything would be okay.

We walked through a puff of smoke, and saw the passage of light, telling us the house was almost over. A clown jumped out from a little crook in the wall. He smiled creepily at us as we continued walking. The problem with this house was that the monster's lingered and followed you until you were out of sight, which didn't sit well with me. I hated when they followed us. Danny sensed the clown still behind us, and him knowing that I didn't like it, tightening his grip on me and continuing to the end.

I thankfully stepped into the light, quickly followed by Danny and Elayne. I saw my daughter's face clearly now and saw that she had been quietly crying. "You did so good, baby," I said kissing her cheek.

"We are so proud of you," Danny said putting both arms around her and kissing her face all over. "I told you if you were scared I would be there for you. You remember that, okay? Daddy will always be there for you," Danny said staring the girl straight in the eye. My heart melted. He was a good dad. He looked at me and opened his arms up to me. I gratefully joined in their hug. We left the house behind us, and went home, feeling more connected to each other.

It's kind of short, but I hope you liked it! I'm so sorry for the delay!
