Chapter 2
Cruze
Careem Sheard is my name, but I go by Cruze. I'm Brooklyn born baby! I come from a family of high rollers and gangsters so you should already know that I'm next in line for the game to be tossed at. I was a hard fifteen year old. I took absolutely no shit from nobody and if something wasn't the way I like it, then I sent the shit right back. It's as simple as that. I do what I want, and when I want. Ain't no stopping me. With this attitude, I gain respect, but not from my grandparents. The people that were currently raising me. My parents died back in 1987, and now seven years later, here is a boy that covers up the pain from the death of his parents by acting like he doesn't care about nothing.
I sat in the leather chair in that small room waiting. I was waiting for my grandmother to come pick me up. Principal Howard starred at me angrily. I starred back like I wasn't intimidated. I wanted to laugh in his face. I wanted to walk out of that room like nothing could touch me, then we heard a knock at the door. "Come in." Principal Howard called. The door opened and my grandmother stepped into the office. To be in her fifties, she still looked good. No wrinkles, nice shape, and a pretty face. I smile at my grandmother as if I was glad to see her. She had both of her kids as a teenager and didn't care nothing about what people thought of her, but when my momma died, something changed in her. She got bitter, mean, and was always mad about something. She sat down in a chair that was next to me and she looked at Principal Howard. "Sorry to disturb you again............Mrs. Robinson, but your grandson is just out of control." I chuckle under my breath. This whole thing was just hilarious to me. My grandmother looked at me with anger, then back at principal Howard.
"What did he do this time?" She sighed. Principal Howard cleared his throat and fixed his tie.
"It's quite embarrassing for me to even say." He started. "Careem is just out of hand Mrs. Robinson."
"That didn't answer my question.........what did he do?" Principal Howard starred at my grandmother and shook his head.
"Everything." He says. "This is his eleventh offense this school year and by far, the worst. Spray painting lockers, pranks, cursing out teachers, fighting and breaking someones jaw bone, but today.......today he crossed the line."
"I'm not going to ask you anymore." My grandmother said impatiently. "What did he do?" Principal Howard looked down at his hands and moved his thumbs in circles.
"He was caught skipping third period class." He says.
"Oh my god............That's it?" My grandmother asked angrily.
"He was caught in the girls locker room, and the athletic instructor saw him having sexual intercourse with another student. She's a junior here." My grandmother looked lost for words. She looked like she wanted to puke. Yeah, he said it. No one would have ever thought that I would have taken it this far to fuck a bitch in the locker rooms. I was laughing so hard on the inside, but on the outside I was as quiet as a mouse. There was a long silence until I heard Principal Howard's voice again. "Expulsion is what was requested by quite a number of teachers. Everyone including students are surprised that he lasted this long into the school year, and may I remind you that his grades are awful. His grade point average isn't even at two point-o. I'm sorry Mrs. Robinson........but Careem has to go. The Browning is a great public school for students and he is giving us a bad rep." I looked over at my grandmother who's eyes darted all over the floor. She was still shocked at what Principal Howard had told her.
"Okay." She said nodding her head. "I understand." Then I watched principal Howard pull out documents and papers for her to sign. I was sad to be leaving all of my homies and friends, but I was tired of this school anyway. About a good ten minutes later, I was walking out of those double doors with my grandmother feeling free as a dove. My grandmother on the other hand was pissed off. I looked around. The snow was white and sparkly, and the cold wind swiftly hit my face as I walked. We headed straight for her white Monte Carlo. She was pissed that she was called down from work and she looked like she wanted to kill me. I open the door to the passenger side and before I stepped in, I chuckled loud enough so she could hear me.
