Chapter 42
Diamond
When the jet landed in the hot city, I had no idea of what to do or where to go. I was in the city of Los Angeles and it was all foreign to me. I felt as if I was this little girl in a big city. I didn't know the streets of LA like I did Queens. I wanted to beat my own ass because I should have took care of shit while I was still living in New York first before I decided to leave. Now I was completely on my own. I called a cab and it took me to a near by hotel. I found myself in Compton and I was staying at the Crystal Casino and Hotel. I checked into my room and had the bell hop help me with all of my bags and suit cases except for my brief case full of money and merchandise. I was paying up to four hundred dollars a night and I didn't want to spend all of my money just to live in that hotel for ever so I had to think of something fast. When I got to my room, I stripped naked and hopped in the jacuzzi tub. I was trying to enjoy myself because I had wanted to move to California so bad, but now all I wanted to do was cry because it didn't turn out like I thought it would. I couldn't believe that I traveled clear across the country just to end up living in a hotel. I should have gotten my shit together first before I boarded that jet. Everyone had been right about my head being stuck in the clouds. I can admit that since I had money and I was balling, I thought I was the shit and could do whatever I wanted. I had not once sat down and thought about my living conditions, what I was going to do about starting another business, or how long it would take Gay Tony to set up the meeting with Royale. I didn't know the streets or where anything was. Hell, I would get lost trying to get to a McDonnalds. Before I left New York, all I had been thinking about was sitting at the beach and enjoying the hot sun, but now that I was finally here, I realized that I was stupid for that. Oh well, I was here now and I had to stick it out one way or another. I had two kilos of coke with me and I decided that I was going to try and sell one on the streets, and sell the other to Royale when I had the chance. I got out of the jacuzzi tub and threw on a t-shirt. I hopped in the queen sized bed that was in my hotel room and gazed out of the long window that stretched down the wall at the night sky overlooking Compton before falling asleep. I knew that Compton wasn't where I was going to get a place at, but that would be sometime from now. At that moment, I had to think about how I was going to get by until then.~ ~ ~ ~
For the next week and a half, I spent my time working on getting a car. I took a cab out to a dealer ship and ended up leaving with a shiny, dark blue Lexus. I bought the car and went to go get my insurance all in one day. Now that I knocked that off of my list, I had to start getting out there and getting people to know my name. I drove back to the hotel to get a little dope and I hopped back in my new car and headed out to the dirty streets of compton. I rode around for hours trying to get aware of my surroundings. There were palm trees everywhere. That's all I knew. I then spotted a couple of men smoking and drinking outside of a small house in the middle class neighborhood I was in. The sky was dim and just about to become dark and I knew that someone was having a little get together. Music was blasting loudly from the house and there were so many cars parked along the block. I knew that someone had threw a little house party, but if it was a party then that meant lots of people were there. I parallel parked in between two houpties. I then got out of my car and started to walk toward the house where Boyz to Men was being blasted. As I neared the house, the men were stopping their conversations to just take one good look at me. I had on a short jeaned dress, and tall, black heels on my feet. My black hair was done up nice with the additional weave adding body to it, and my pretty face put the icing on the cake. I had my MK purse holding a nine millimeter and coke inside swinging back and forth in my hand as I walked, and I popped and chewed on my gum helplessly. I walked up to the three men. They were older, and gruff looking, but I wasn't there to meet any boyfriends. I was there to make money and try to get my name on the streets. "Damn momma. Who you"? One older man asked drunkly.
