Chapter 9
Diamond
I stepped through the door of the battered house with trash bags in my hands. I cringed from the smell. It smelled like dead mice and rotten eggs. I was here to get the rest of my stuff. Ms. Tamra had her car parked out front waiting on me. I had been living with the twins for a week now and I needed to get more of my clothes. The house seemed quiet. There wasn't any sign of momma. I climbed up the creaky steps and stride to my room. As I stepped inside I couldn't help but think of that horrible night that caused me to leave. The trash bags in my hands dangled as I asked myself where do I start? sigh then opened up one of them and start picking up clothes from off of the ground, then I headed to my small closet and snatched things off of their hangers. I went over to my dresser and dumped all of the continents from the drawers into the trash bags and soon the first bag was full to the rim so I tied it up real tight. I grabbed another bag and put my dirty laundry in it and my perfume bottles and boxes of jewelry. I grabbed two more trash bags and threw all of my boots and shoes inside of them. All of my bags were filled to the rim. I had one more left and I filled it with some more clothes. I took each of them down the steps and to the front door. When I put the last bag down by the door, I opened it to see momma leaned into Ms. Tamra's car window talking to her. My heart sank. I didn't want momma to know that I was leaving. I grabbed two of my bags and walked out with them to Ms. Tamra's car. I walked right past momma and to Ms. Tamra's trunk. I opened it and threw the bags inside. When I looked up, momma was starring at me with her jaw dropped. I tried to walk right past her again to get the rest of my bags but she grabbed my wrist. "And where do you think your going"? I looked at her then took my other hand and pried off her grapple on my wrist.
"No where". I say. I start to walk again, but momma grabs the back of my shirt this time and pulls me back.
"Lil girl you are not leaving this house......your my kid you hear me! My kid.....not this bitches kid". She almost yells.
"Well you sure don't treat me like it.....you don't even know that I was almost raped at your last party and you wouldn't have cared less because you were to busy partying".
"Rasheeda told me about what happened. Diamond your not going anywhere so take your fast ass back in that house and put all of your clothes up". My mother says pointing toward the ugly house. I simply turned away from her and ran up the concrete steps to the house and I go in and grab two more of my bags. I hull them to the car and put them inside the trunk. I closed it because I wasn't sure if it would hold any more of my bags. "Diamond"! Momma yelled.
"I'm moving' out and you can't stop me"! I yelled back. "I can't live like this momma". I say running back up to the house to grab my last bag. As I made my way back to Ms.Tamra car and put the bag into the backseat I could hear momma start to say stuff. Stuff that she knew was wrong.
"Okay". She said. "Go on....get. Since you wanna leave me like everybody else did in my life the go-on. Just remember that I gave birth to you! I did....not this bitch right here". I walk around to the other side of Mr.Tamra's car and get into the passenger seat. "I'll tell you what.....I would've aborted yo ass, but I ain't have three-hundred dollars".
"Momma"! I yelled. "How could you say that to me"?
"Easily...now go".
"Why do you hate me so much"? I ask trying to get answers.
"I don't hate you, I just don't need you or don't really want you".
"Hey that is not appropriate". Ms.Tamra butted in. "If you really feel that way then I feel sorry for you".
