Struggle #24

I watch as Prince walks over to London and sits beside her as she channel surfs. From where I'm sitting in the kitchen of our hotel room, I can see London bat her eyes at his charming smile. A smile spreads across my face as phase one jumps into action. I turn my magazine slowly and quietly in order to hear everything that's going on.

"There's nothing good on tv." London sighs, I can hear the tv picking up bits and pieces of conversations from the different channels going by.

Prince takes the remote from her hand, "We can watching project runway!" He exclaims. I glance up to see London's head slowly turning to look at him. Her eyebrows quirked up in surprise.

"You...watch Project Runway?" She asks, a hint of distaste evident in her voice. See London has strict standards when it comes to things boys should and should not do. I wouldn't say she's homophobic because she's not, I mean one of her best friends is lesbian. But if you like a boy and he seems to be a little fruity on the side, how would you react?

"Yeah this show is bomb. I watch it all the time with my mom. She calls it our bonding time." He says, turning back to the tv and raising the volume. London continues to stare at him like he just said her hair is Brazilian weave or something. She rolls her eyes and looks back at the tv, I can practically see the wheels in her head turning as she tries to piece things together.

I put my palm over my mouth to stifle my laughter. Prince is a great actor, he pulled that off way too easily. Of course he doesn't watch Project Runway with his mom. I just told him to say that because London is such a "fashion forward person". Her opinion...not mine. See, the more London is turned off by Prince the harder he'll try to win her over. And no girl likes a desperate guy.

Man this is gonna be fun.

The next day, I wake up to someone pounding on my room door. Renee groans and puts a pillow over her head to block out the noise, as I trudge over to the door. I open it to find Prince on the other side, already dressed and anxious for the day.

"Good morning! You said you were gonna come shopping with me today to get some stuff that might impress London!" He chirps, his eyes twinkling with excitement.

I rub my eyes, "Prince, why don't you impress her with your charming personality instead of material things?"

He doesn't hesitate to answer, "Because London is more sophisticated than that. She's used to guys going out of their way to win her over and I don't want to be a sloppy runner up." He admits. The truthfulness in his voice is almost enough to make me give this whole plan up. But the hopefulness in his eyes pulls back in.

I sigh, "Fine, let me get dressed." I close the door in his face and walk over to my suitcase to pick out my clothes for the day. A black skater skirt, red tank and a denim vest with my keds. Since it would be just me and Prince today I wanted boost my appearance today. Maybe it will kick start his brain and make him open up his eyes to what's in front of him.

Prince and I ride the elevator down to the lobby, its still secluded from the early time but the send is shining through the windows, making the few of the glossy interior look beautiful. We go outside where Kenneth and our driver are sitting in the all black, tinted windows Range Rover.

"Where to?" Kenneth asks us.

Prince glances at me, "Too the mall!" I declare. The doors locks and we pull away from the curb. The whole ride there Prince and I start babbling about random stuff. We discuss Jacob and Joya, the tour, twitter gossip and more. At one point we got into a heated argument over Beyonce and Aaliyah, trying to say who the real queen is. Deep within our debate, his phone dings with a text. He pulls it out and looks at the screen, a smile slowly spreading across his face.

"Who's that? London?" I sneer, discreetly rolling my eyes.

"Nah, Bella sent me a picture of Noah and Madeline. Look," he hands his phone over to me and I carefully take it from his hands. I look at the screen to see Noah and Madeline in the tub, submerged by so many bubbles that you can only see their nose and eyes. I chuckle at the sight, "They're so cute. I want to see them one day."

"Maybe you will one day. When the tour is over we'll still be cool right?" He asks me, taking back his phone.

I shrug, "I guess so. But things won't be the same. I can't take time out of my school schedule and neither can you with your work schedule. It's like a long distance relationship."

Prince glances down at his hands, flipping his phone around. "Yeah, except its a friendship."

I purse my lips and look out the window. "Right..."

We finally pull up at the mall and hop out the car. "Y'all need me to escort you?" Kenneth asks, probably remember how MB got mobbed last time.

Prince shake his head, "It's just me this time so maybe it won't be so obvious as to who I am." He glances at me, "Unless they recognize Kacey."

"Or your hair." I pull one of his curls and they spring back into place. He reaches into the car and pulls out a SnapBack that I recognize as Myles. Smudging his curls into it, he adds some shades and looks at me. I laugh, "I guess that will work."

"Alright we'll be back around two for y'all." He says, climbing back into the passenger seat. We turn and go into the mall. It's already bustling with early bird shoppers when we enter. Prince looks around the back at me, "Alright you know London the best. What do you think will impress her?"

I grin, "Lets start in Hot Topic."

His eyebrows raises, "Hot Topic? London doesn't seem like a hot topic kind of girl.

"Trust me, she has a thing for piercings." I tell him reassuring, already flouncing away towards the store. I hear Prince shuffling behind me and for once, I feel like I'm in control.

By the time we were done shopping I feel accomplished. If these things don't turn off London I don't know what will. Most of the time, I didn't even have to persuade Prince into buying some of the things he did. He has an eye for different and unique things to buy, being odd is in his blood. That's one of the things I love about him. He doesn't follow the trends, he starts his own. Like his fascination with Tie-Dy, after that rainbow color hoodie chicks were all over Instagram sporting Tie-dyed hoodies and holding up the peace sign.

London on the other hand is all about classy trends like outfits that are European inspired and vintage Ralph Lauren type clothes. Prince is vintage too...but more like thrift shop type vintage. How doesn't he see that they're not compatible?

"Alright I got another joke for you." Prince says once he's stopped laughing from the last one. Right now were sitting in the food court eating Subway and he's been telling me the corniest jokes for at least 10 minutes now. He swallow his food before starting, "What did the ocean say to the sand?"

I shake my head. "What?"

"Nothing...it just kept waving." He throws back his head and burst out laughing like a maniac. People turn to look at us and I cover my mouth as I crack up. We must look crazy right now, laughing like banshees on crack in the middle of a food court. Prince slaps the table, his face red from laughing so hard. I can not believe we're really here dying over that whack joke.

"Excuse me," we look up to find a pretty girl hovering by our table, a shy smile on her face. "Can I have a pic with you guys?"

"Of course cutie," Prince says, standing up. I slide out of my seat and stand on her other side. She holds up her phone and cranes her wrist to get us all in the shot. Once the picture is taken she puts her phone away. "Thank you so much. I'm Krissi by the way."

"Well Krissi, be sure to tag us in that picture when you post it cuz I know you're going to." Prince jokes, playing with her hair randomly.

She flashes a bright smile, "I will." Her eyes shift to me, "Can I just say that I ship you so much with Prod? I've seen you in a few of his pictures and...omigosh you guys are so cute together!" She gushes.

I smile, my cheeks igniting with a blush. "Me and Prod are just friends." I say.

The girl frowns, "maybe for now you are." She glances around before looking back at us. "Thanks for the picture you guys. I can't wait to see MB perform tomorrow."

"Can't wait to see you either." Prince reassures her, giving her a brief hug. She waves at me before heading back to her table. Prince and I sit down again and I look up to catch him smiling slyly at me. I smile nervously, "What?"

"Maybe you and Prod should give it a try. Cuz i totally ship it." He says with the voice of a girl, flipping his wrist and all.

I shake my head, "Nah, Prod is more like a brother. And who are you to tell me who to hook up with while your here chasing London."

"Alright alright, I'll give you that." Prince says with an adorable chuckle. He glances at his watch. "Lets go wait outside for Kenneth. It's cold in here."

Even though I'd rather stay here and share more laughs with him, I nod and follow Prince out the food court towards the exit.

When we get back to the hotel, Prince tells me thats he's coming to our room after he puts away his bags and changes. I say ok and go to our room to find London walking into the living room dressed in leggings and a studded silky pink tunic. Her hair is piled in a glossy bun on top of her head.

"Where have you been?" She asks me, looking me up and down as I put my shopping bags on the couch.

"Shopping." I reply simply. "So how are you and Prince doing?

She smiles, her teeth looking perfectly white behind her shimmery pink lipgloss. "Pretty good actually. Other than his weird habit of watching Project Runway..." Her nose scrunches up in disgust.

I laugh, "No matter what he does you're gonna stick by his side right? I mean Prince has a tendency to take drastic changes." I watch as London's eyes flash with sudden interest.

"What do you know that I don't?" She asks, crossing her arms and stepping closer to me. Theres a knock on the door and a smirk appears on my face, thankful for our interruption.

"Prince is here!" I say in a bubbly tone. She squints at me before turning and heading for the door. She opens it and I watch as her face crumples like a piece of paper. From his Jeremy Scoot teddy bear sneakers to the nose ring dangling from his nose, I could tell that London wanted to bash him for every little detail of his appearance.

She turns her head to look at me, but I'm already retreating down the hall to my room with a cheerful skip in my step.
