Chapter 52-- Secrets and lies.

Guardonia-Earth base: 05:00 hours.

Mundati and Lacerta sat in one of the silent lounges, in a state of suspended animation. Neither could believe what they had discovered that night and neither wanted to admit its validity either.

Shaking his head with the tiniest of movements, Mundati looked as if he could shake his fears and worries away if he could convince himself he was wrong but deep down, he knew with absolute clarity, that the security devices he had constructed were foolproof.

Gazing at Lacerta, concerned for her delicate state, he noticed that she too, was trying to grasp the reality of the situation as well; what they did from here would be an action with the potential to change life as they knew it forever and that wasn't a comforting thought for either party, yet both were filled with a crystal clear thought that they were meant to discover Pictor's double-agent lifestyle and that, in turn the war, in its infancy had assisted in revealing the shocking truth. Otherwise, who knew how long Pictor had been feeding Malum with leaks regarding Guardonias activities.

Shockingly, Mundati realised that the recent loss of Nathan and Harry could have been due to manipulated scenario controlled by Pictor himself; voicing this to Lacerta, he felt himself becoming angrier and angrier. His two best friends had been murdered and if Pictor was responsible, by the angel, he would pay and pay good.

Lacerta held Mundati tightly to her; such was his mood and youth that he was likely to charge after Pictor, armed with no truth and end up in serious hot water. Afterall, if Pictor was a Destrodian defector, he clearly had once possessed a dark side and judging by the conversation they overheard, was likely to stil possess a good part of it.

Soothingly, Lacerta spoke gently to Mundati, not patronising yet trying to guide his thought processes in a logical direction.

" There is nothing we can do armed with only tonights' conversation. " she explained, softly stroking his hair in soothing circles.

"We need concrete evidence, proof of what he is doing. Deus will believe us, as will Catelyn, but others are devoted to Pictor. One word against him would trigger accusations of treachery as soon as they were uttered. He has a strong following; every Guardonian believes that Pictor is a pure and good-hearted as he says he is, so we must tread softly. Let's speak to Deus, then see where to proceed from there. Okay with you?" she added, more to make him feel included than anything else.

Mundati nodded mutely; it would be tough to pretend as if everythingwas normal but understood Lacertas' rational approach too.

Standing up, they both rose together, as if pre-ordaned and headed to awaken their partners; neither of them relished the task of exposing a mole in their community, nor the thought of battling internally as well as against Destrodia yet it was a necessary evil. Between them, they had to find a way to catch and stop Pictor, before it was too late and more innocent lives were lost.

Adriano, despite previous misgivings had come to realise that, whilst the 'old' Star was long gone, the 'new' Star was a much improved version.

He was extremely reluctant to forgive Stars' henious act against Jake and the whole of Guardonia, yet seeing Deus, Mundati and even Laura slowly forgive him, came to realise that he too, loving Saggita as he did, would be driven to extremes to win her love if she hadn't have noticed him too, although he would like to think that he would never resort to manslaughter. That said, Star strenuously denied meaning to take Jakes' life and was distraught at the way things had turned out; he was a much quieter, more studious light angel now but showed an intenseloyalty to those who had accepted him back, realising it was a controversial decision to do so.
