Chapter 14-The angels of Doom.
It took several weeks for the students to calm down and get back to normal, after the surprising events that occurred at the Valentines' Ball.
Christian and Kirsty commenced their weekly magic training sessions in earnest, having received their wings and feeling it was an honour to do so, they felt it only right to put as much effort into their lessons as possible. It helped of course, that they enjoyed spending every spare moment in each others company and sometimes only spoke to their friends at mealtimes--not because they meant to, but because the telepathic and magical link between them grew stronger each day.
After their initial 'wing-training' with Pictor, that involved hilarity, embarrassment, humility and many other emotions, the couple had grasped the concept of using their wings; this was a lot more difficult than they could ever have dreamt of. Their wings, at first, behaved like a new-born foal would--unsteady and spindly; not knowing exactly what bit went where, but over time, they had begun to understand the 'hows' and 'whys'.
This left them with plenty of time to practice with Ara in their joint lessons.
Meanwhile, Kirsty was seperately studying to become a Soothsayer, although deep inside, she was longing to return to Earth in her role as Guardonia Angelus--aware that this was a while off, but dreaming of it nevertheless.
Similarly, Christians' training as a Healer was developing nicely, but it was clear to all of the Magisters that his skills would lie in being a floating angel. He had so much compassion and sympathy with everyone he met, from a lost first year, to a third year doubting their abilities would confide in him. Whenever Christian walked into a room, he seemed to be able to create a shift in atmosphere, from one of intense study, to increased confidence and ironically, he didn't even realise he did this, thinking instead that the happy atmosphere permeated the whole of Guardonia.
After several months of training and after a fun dinner time with Nathan and Casey, Jake and Laura and Tash and Finn--all couples still delighting in each others company, Christian wandered back to his room for an early night--he and Kirsty had been late practicing last night, but they were definately benefitting from it; it became a great tease to have a conversation telepathically when amongst friends, although recently they had been caught out by Harry, who was quietly developing his own skill! This resulted in two very red-faced teenagers and a group of bemused friends, with Harry chuckling away.
On reaching his room, Christian found a forlorn looking Leon sat on one of the squishy sofas, head in hands and tears streaking his usually perfect face.
Christian knelt beside him and gently patted his shoulder, asking "What's up mate? Do you want to talk, can I help or leave you alone?"
Christians' empath- side was telling him Leon needed to talk, but he may not be ready, hence his questioning.
Leon looked up, his face streaming with tears, eyes puffy and red, as if he had been sat crying for some time.
"Promise me you won't think I am being stupid?" he glanced enquiringly at Christian who answered with a nod.
"Naomi has advanced so much since she got her gold wings and I am so proud of her and all, b-b-but she is only fourteen and they have decided she is ready to start scouting missions with Lacerta. So, tomorrow whilst we are all safetly in lessons, eating dinner and having fun, she will be on Earth and I am so scared for her. She has trotted off to bed, happy and excited, with me having to pretend and smile, but deep down I am terrified that I will never see her again. What if the Stalkers are around, if a Breaker gets hold of her? I am so happy with our perfect life here and didn't have a care in the World·····until now! I feel so selfish, but I am so, so scared I will lose her."
