Chapter 2-G.A.S.P
(unedited).
Christian looked around his room in disbelief--he wasn't a kid, didn't believe in Santa or the tooth fairy for gods sake, yet what the hell could have written on the window of his third storey bedroom?
He moved closer to the window with trepidation, almost as if he was expecting a whole load of Ethan's schoolmates to be out on the balcony laughing at him.
He opened his bay window as quietly as he could and climbed over the ledge to the balcony. At least if this was a prank, he was going to play along for curiousity's sake.
As he slid down the trellis, he realised he had no shoes on, but this was the least of his problems-- he found himself almost wishing he believed in elves and magic!
He mentally scolded himself: you idiot, you are twelve, no, thirteen years old now--as if magic exists! If it did, I would be at Hogwarts by now!
He giggled quietly to himself, imagining being a Hufflepuff loser knowing his luck!
Reaching the grass he raced across to the tree at the bottom of his garden--trying desperatly to ignore his soggy socks!
He held onto the tree, catching his breath from the sprint--physical fitness was not his forte that's for sure.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, Christian saw what appeared to be a large shooting star heading towards him at a rate of knots. He covered his face with his arm, as the air in front of him grew to an almost scorching brightness. He waited a while until the heat calmed down and suspiciously took a peak over the top of his forearm.
In front of him was a teenage boy, a little older than himself he surmised. For a few seconds they both just stared at each other, until the older boy spoke,
"Happy birthday Christian" he said in a light, almost cartoon-like voice.
"I'm glad that you decided to respond to my message on your window. Have you heard of us angels before?"
Christian gulped and pinched his arm. Did he just say angels? I must be still asleep, he deduced. Either that or thirteen is a very weird age to have a mid-life crisis!!
" H,h,hello" he stuttered, thinking if he was going crazy, he may as well play along.
"You are probably wondering what on earth is happening, right?" The angel continued without waiting for Christian to reply.
"Now you are thirteen, a chosen few get to attend the Guardian Angel School of Protection. This means that from now on, should you chose to come with me, you will cease to exist on Earth and become an ethereal being, chosen to serve humankind as a guardian angel. Of course, this is getting ahead of myself. You have to train first! Ooops, no! You need to decide whether to come with first!"
The teenager in front of Christian was beginning to glow gently and again, he rubbed his eyes and pinched harder to make sure he was actually awake, the probability that he was awake seemed more and more likely as the angel-like boy spoke!
"Oh, and by the way, my name is Star- don't laugh, and if you come with me to Guardonia, I will be your mentor and help you with your studies and settling in to the dorms. So, what do you say? Fancy leaving your piece of garbage life behind you and starting a magical life, the likes of which you can only dream of? "
Christian took a deep breath and looked around him. What would he really be leaving behind? Seriously, he had no friends, his brother was an ass ; as for his Mother, well he would never live up to her expectations and to be honest, didn't really want to!
The only person he would miss was his Dad, but apart from a few words a day, he was busy caught up in trying to understand how his life had become so shit! But it was all too convenient somehow!
"This is some kind of prank, isn't it?"Christian said with a sigh.
" I guess my stupid douchbag brother put you up to it-- he's always teasing me about how I'm too old to still be waiting for my Hogwarts letter! He's done a good job though, I very nearly belie······"
His voice tailed off, as Star suddenly grew a pair of enormous wings and flying into the air, looped the loop a few times too!
OMG, thought Christian. This is the real deal, I'm not dreaming and it wasn't Ethan! Do I want to go? Hell yeah!!
He chuckled to himself--my language had better improve if I'm to become an angel and let out a beaming smile as the scale of the decision relayed around his brain. Me, an angel that helps others? Recognition and friends in another World!
"When do we leave?" he asked a stunned Star, who was clearly used to having to do alot more to convince the Chosen to agree.
" Right now " he replied " if you are ready. Remember that nobody from this life will ever see you again. It will be as if you have dissapeared without a trace. The memories of those who know you will remain, but you will not be able to visit or speak to them. Is that clear? "
Christian nodded his head yes, still overawed by the angel's flying display.
With that, the angel touched his shoulder, muttered the words " Mauris Gardonia " and with that Christian and the angel started spinning faster and faster, the colours of the garden reflected by the moon all merging into one. Christian was begginning to feel rather nauseous, as the spinning vortex around them changed to a shiny, twinkly and bright colour, much like being wrapped with christmas tinsel.
Just as he felt he couldn't take anymore, the spinning stopped abruptly and he fell through the air, falling onto a soft and billowy surface. He looked down where he had landed and almost freaked-- I'm on a fricking cloud in the sky, what if i fall through, what if it moves?
He was beginning to hyperventilate at the thought of the last ten minutes, when Star gently touched his shoulder.
"Don't worry" he said calmly.
" The first time I arrived here . I was sick as anything and shivering like a whippet! You no longer need to fear ANYTHING! There are no bullies in Guardonia and everybody is treated as an equal. From now on, you will live a life of peace, friendship and utter happiness. Your self esteem will rocket, as will your confidence because there in no-one here to break it down."
He grinned at Christian reassuringly.
"Now, if you are ready, let's get you settled into your dorm.".
Looking over his shoulder and beckoning Christian to follow, he jumped through a hole in the cloud.
