Rae's POV
"FREEDOM!" Louis shouted as the van finally stopped. He pulled the door open desperately and dragged Paris out with him. She laughed at his enthusiasm, but the force sent her sprawling to the dirt floor of the camp site.
For the first time in three years, Status Single and One Direction had the same vacation days. We were planning to take advantage of that by going camping together.
I slipped off the high chair of the shotgun seat, following Harry out. Zayn and Natalie followed suit, as well as Liam and Charlotte. Niall and Callie were watching a video on his phone, and likely haven't even realized we've stopped.
"I'd like to point out that this was your idea," I told my boyfriend as he tangled our fingers together naturally.
"You know," Harry started, "camping is the number one way to reconnect with friends, and also to create better strength in a relationship."
"You're stupid AND a liar," I accused, and Harry chuckled.
"Come on," he said, "let's go hide in the bushes over there until everyone finishes setting up."
I glanced over my shoulder to make sure the others were busy, before yanking Harry to the right and weaving through the trees. Harry laughed as he took the lead, taking us farther and farther into the dark woods. The moon provided the only lightsource, which gave the impression of being in a horror movie.
"We should've brought flashlights," I giggled as Harry jumped down a two-foot drop, turning around and plucking me up by my waist, swinging me down.
"We're getting lost in the woods. It's romantic," he argued.
I rolled my eyes just as we finally stopped. I looked up at Harry's darkened face, smiling with a cheeky grin, "So...what now?"
"Well...maybe this trip wasn't just planned for us to get together," he said mysteriously, "Maybe I had other motives."
"Maybe I'm listening," I whispered, standing on my toes to kiss him gently. he replied immediately, running his hands up the back of my t-shirt.
"You know how I helped Louis with Paris' engagement ring?" he murmured against my lips.
"Of course," I smirked.
"Maybe I got a little something there as well."
I felt one of his hands leave my back, before holding something between us. I looked down briefly, only to stare at the magnificent diamond ring that sat in a little velvet box.
"Will you do me the honour?" he whispered.
I stared up at his face, his dimples being displayed on his cheeks. His green eyes seemed to sparkle in the glow of the moon, and his pure sencerity in his words was overwhelming.
"Yes," I breathed, taking his face in my hands and pressing my lips to his. Harry pulled my close, hugging me tightly. I felt like he had just offered me the world, and to me, it really was. Harry is my world, and a simple "yes" didn't even seem like enough.
I ran my fingers into the unkempt curly hair that he posessed, feeling too happy to know what else to do. I could feel my lungs screaming for oxygen, but I ignored them. Nothing was about to diffuse the fireworks going off inside me.
Eventually, though, we had to pull away. Our foreheads were pressed together as we caught our breaths, and the ring was gently slipped onto my finger.
"I'm hungry for some marshmallows," Harry whispered.
"I think tonight is the night I go on a chocolate binge," I laughed.
"I can't wait to see that."
I smacked Harry on the side of the head, only making him laugh. He wrapped his arm tightly around my shoulders, and we started walking back the way we'd come. I was still having trouble comprehending what had just happened. I was over the moon with joy, and couldn't wait to tell my best friend all about it.
When we got back to the camp site, everyone was sitting on fold up chairs around the campfire. I noticed that two had been set out for Harry and I as well, which were opposite each other because our friends are assholes.
"Harry Styles you sly dog," Louis said immediately, hopping up from his seat and tackling Harry to the ground. I grinned at the two boys, ignoring Harry's plea for my assistance.
"Alright, NOW what's he talking about?" Paris questioned.
Instead of answering, I flaunted my hand in the flickering light of the fire. The girls' eyes lit up, and Callie, Charlotte, Paris, and Natalie were surrounding me instantly.
"Oh my god!"
"It's beautiful!"
"He proposed?!"
"Lucky girl!"
"Gorgeous."
I looked up at my friend with pride, looking over at Harry to see him at a 4:1 ratio against the rest of One Direction. I laughed hysterically, reaching for his hand and pulling him up to his feet. He looked thankful for my intervention, but my eyes were torn away by Louis' hug.
"Congrats, Rae," he whispered in my ear.
I smiled, "Thanks, Lou."
The group headed back to their chairs, Harry moving his across the circle to be next to mine. Niall picked up his guitar from off the ground, and started strumming a familiar tune.
I smiled and started singing.
"I'm beat but I can't be broken
Knocked down but you gave me hope and
I can see now
Just gotta dig it out"Paris grinned and sang the next bit.
"These scars on my heart I own them
Dark days when my will was stolen
I can bring it back
Yeah I know it, I know it
And I'm starting to feel again"The whole lot of us joined in for the chorus, and I looked to Harry as we sang together.
"One way out I found it
Won't back down, surrounded
You and me right now
Yeah we are, we are, we are unbreakable"I looked around my group of friends in total awe. We were unbreakable. The ten of us will always be together, and nothing can break us apart.
We are forever.
