Chapter 3

I woke up to Steve lightly shaking me.

"Come on, ShortCake!" He said.

I took a deep breath and exhaled loudly.

"Meh!" I said, laughing.

"You're such a child." Steve said, laughing at me.

"Hey, I'm only 15." I said.

Steve put his hands up in defeat.

"Alright, alright!" He said. "By the way, I'm getting a taxi because I don't think Charlie would like to be on my motorcycle. And we won't be able to carry the things that we'll be getting today if we were on the motorcycle."

I sat up and stretched.

"When will the taxi be here?" I asked.

"30 minutes, so you better hurry and get ready."

When Steve left the room, I hopped out of bed and grabbed a tank top and shorts. Then I slipped on my tennis shoes and put on my belt and combed out my long, dark, curly brown hair. I made my bed and picked up Charlie, walking out of the room.

"Taxi's here." Steve informed me.

I nodded and followed him out the door.

"Where are we going first?" I asked as we walked down the stairs.

"Wherever you want." Steve answered as he opened the car door for me.

I stepped in the car.

"How about Ross? They've got good clothes for cheap. And I think that there's a Kohl's next to it." I offered.

"Sounds good." Steve said, following me inside the car.

The taxi stopped in front of Ross. Steve paid the driver and we both walked inside.

"Oh! Excuse me! Young lady." A woman said, running up to Steve and I.

"Yes?" I asked.

"Pets aren't allowed in the store." She said.

I held on to Charlie a little bit tighter.

"Oh... Um..." I started.

"I'm sure we can work something out."

I turned and looked at Steve.

"I'm sorry sir, but-" the woman started, then she looked up. "Oh... You're- You're Steve Rogers."

Steve nodded.

"Yes ma'am." He said with a small smile.

"Oh well then I'm sure we could work something out!" She said, smiling like a goof.

I raised my eyebrow and looked up at Steve. Then back to the woman. I smiled.

"You may go in." She said.

"Thank you." I said.

The woman stared and watched us walk off until we were out of sight.

"What was that all about?" I asked.

Steve rubbed the back of his neck.

"It's complicated." He answered.

"Come on! We're brother and sister now. Siblings don't keep secrets from each other." I said, pointing at him.

He smiled and shook his head.

"I'll tell you later ShortStack." He said.

I rolled my eyes.
