We went to 7 11 after going to PetCo and getting somethings for Charlie. I made a mixed iCe with Dr. Pepper, Pepsi, Cherry Limeade and Green Apple flavored slush. I remember doing this when I was little... My dad would take me here every Saturday. He would call these suicide drinks. I'd laugh. We would talk about the strangest things...

Steve and I were outside with our slushes waiting for the cab. I was leaning into Steve's side, slurping up slush, thinking about my past.

"Thanks." I said.

Steve looked down at me and smiled.

"No problem. You're my sister now. I'm going to take care of you." He said, wrapping his arm around me.

"Does that happen often?" I asked.

"Yup."

"Ya know, I totally could've helped you." I said, nudging him.

He laughed.

"Maybe someday." He said.

"Really?!" I asked, looking up at him.

"Yeah! You just need some training."

My face lit up.

"That would be awesome!" I said.

A boy walked up next to us. He was on his phone texting someone. I looked at him. He glanced up and did a double take. I smiled and he smiled back. Then he looked up at Steve, who was sending a glare at him. The boy looked down, embarrassed, causing me to punch Steve lightly.

"What?" He whispered, causing me to laugh.

The boy looked up again and smiled.

"Your laugh is pretty." He said.

"Thanks." I said, smiling.

Then he blushed.

"Uh did I say that aloud?" He asked.

"You sure did, buddy." Steve said through clenched teeth.

The boy blushed again and looked down.

"Hey, it's okay." I said, reassuring the boy.

He smiled.

"What's your name?" I asked.

"I'm Ricky. And you are?"

"I'm Maddy." I answered.

"Nice to meet you." He said.

"You too." I said, winking.

I felt Steve's grip on my arm tighten.

"Hey, I've got to go. Maybe I'll see you again sometime." He told me.

"I sure hope so." I said smiling.

"I hope not." Steve said, mocking me.

Once he was gone, I turned to Steve.

"What is wrong with you?" I asked.

"You're too young for boys."

"Steve! I'm 15. I'm not a baby."

"I just don't want you hurt by someone who doesn't deserve you."

I rolled my eyes. Just then the taxi rolled up to the curb.

"Come on." I said, collecting my bags.

I put Charlie in the seat next to mine. Steve and I dropped our bags in the trunk and I slid into the car next to Steve.

"I have to work tomorrow, I'm going to buy you a cell phone to keep in touch with you." He said.

"Why can't I just go to work with you?" I asked.
