Part.6 A Smile If Only For You

"Goddess, about that important discussion..."
Haruki says.
"Y-yes!"
I snap back a reply.
"My goddess, I must let you know that soon you will be in great danger."
He says in a serious tone.
"Danger?"
I ask.
"Yes, danger. Goddess... The Fallen... have risen again."
He states.

The fallen?

Then suddenly something comes back to me.
Arina said something about that right?
'You see, a long time ago before The War of the Beasts, both the demons and the angels agreed to fight against the Devils and the Fallen with the goddesses.'
"The fallen have risen again, with an army 10 times as large as before and plot to be rid of the last living goddess."
He seriously says.
"Kill... ?"
I murmur.

An entire race is now plotting to kill me?
But... I've done nothing wrong.

"Haruki, why would an entire race plot to kill me!?"
I ask with a shake in my voice.
"Because you are the last living goddess, and there's a rumor that you posses powers that no other goddess before you has possesed."
He explains.
"Why would anyone think that, I doubt it's true."
I say, doubting my power.
"It's true! I've seen it before. When Hiroto tried to turn you dark for his own self interest and you summoned an army."
Says Haruki.
"You mean... that's not normal?"
I ask.
"No, not at all... not to mention you actually brought two of the most powerful beings, besides you, to your world."
He says in awe.
"Hmm..."
I mumble to myself.
"Another reason I'm here is... I need to protect you until you can protect yourself. So if you don't mind, I will be with you from now on."
He says quickly as if embarrassed.

Wait, with me? All... the time?

"W-what!?"
I shout.
Everyone looks at me.

Oops...

"When you uh... say 'from now on' do you mean that you'll be with me even at the Sakamaki Mansion?"
I ask.
"Well... yes, though I don't think Hiroto will be very happy."
He says, with a slight worried tone.
"Yeah..."
I reply.

"I doubt he'll even let you come through the front gates...
But..."

No, Haruki will figure it out!

"Okay, if that's what you think, then I won't argue... but I want to learn to use my magic right away. I mean, you can't protect me forever."
I say in confidence.
"Goddess... o-of course."
He looks down.
We order and eat.

We're now heading back to the car.

I'm so full!

We slowly approach the car, I try the door but it's locked.
"Oops."
I mutter.
Haruki comes up behind me.
I turn around and he puts his hand on my head.
"What are you--"
I begin to say.
He slips off my pigtail holders, both at once.
"You should wear your hair down, it looks better that way."
He says with a smile.

He smiled... that was a genuine smile. I haven't seen him smile like that before.

"Oh... okay... if you really think that."
I cast my eyes down, wondering why he felt like voicing his opinion on the way I wear my hair so suddenly.
He backs up and unlocks the car.
Still taken aback, I stand there silent.
"Is something wrong, my goddess?"
He asks.
"Um... Haruki! You can... call me Setsuna."
I shyly say.
"O-oh! Of course if that's what you want!"
He says blushing.

Maybe he's more shy then he let's on...

"Hehe..."
I find myself laughing.
"H-hey don't laugh!"
Haruki demands. But the more I laugh, the more red his face becomes.
Then... he smiles.

Did he... he did it again.

My heart fills with joy, gazing at his smile. His smile lights up like nothing I've ever seen before.
It makes me feel happy.
"Let's go."
He says. With that, we head back to the Sakamaki Mansion.

We park outside of the front gate and get out.
Beginning to walk towards the front gate, Haruki stops. With a wave of his hand the car is gone.

Woah...

But then, his face becomes worried.
"What's wrong?"
I ask.
"Fallen! Get behind me!"
I do as he says.
Hiding behind him I can feel something dark, something not of this world and it sickens me to just be near it.
