Part.24 Amongst The Confusion

Haruki takes my hand and sprints down the hallway.
I run with him.
We weave in and out of people's way trying to avoid making contact at the speed we're going.
"They've all taken the form of Fallen, so no one else can see them!"
Haruki shouts at me over the crowd of students.
We run a little further and almost run into Yukiko and Kou.
"Come on!"
Yukiko shouts, taking my hand out of Haruki's.
They pass me off like a baton and run in sperate directions.
Both directions curve into another hallway that lead to the front yet they went separate ways for some reason.
I'm dragged along until we make it to the front, but for several reasons, Kou and Haruki aren't there waiting for us.
"Where are Kou and Haruki?"
I ask Yukiko.
"Not here."
She says, stopping for a quick moment to open the door then run in again out the door with me in tow.
She stops again.
"We were supposed to follow them and take the side exit..."
She says.

I thought it was strange we were leaving out the front door.

She looks back at me but looks back forward and keeps running.
No Fallen appear to be here so we dash the the school gates.

Huh?
Somethings off...

I look around.
"Hmm? Yukiko?"
I ask aloud.

Hold on where did she go? She was just right here.

"Yukiko!"
I shout.
I frantically look around for her but I find nothing.
I'm in the open courtyard area in front of the school alone while we're under attack from the Fallen.

This is bad.

From the side of the school gate I can faintly see a figure so I rush out of view.
I go to hide in some nearby bushes.
Squatting down, my eyes follow the Fallen figure.
I put my hand over my mouth trying not to breathe.

I suppose if they really wanted to find me it wouldn't matter if they could hear me or not.

I feel my heart race as I watch them in silence.
They walk towards the front entrance of the school's main building.

All I can see is black hair and black wings followed by... hold on.

"Is that the school uniform?"
I say aloud.
Gasping, I cover my mouth.
The Fallen stops and turns around to face my direction.

Shou?

He takes a few small steps in my direction but then he runs at a steady pace.
"NO!"
I shout jumping to my feet and making a run for the front gate.

Why is he doing this!?

I reach the gate but stop suddenly.
I turn to face him.
"WHY!?"
I fall to my knees.

I won't put up a fight.
I refuse to believe that he's with the Fallen.
I don't care if he is one that doesn't mean he's for their cause.

I watch him as he runs for me.
He gets closer and closer but the more I can see his face I can tell that he doesn't make eye contact with me.

But he changed direction when I moved ealier.

He stops right in front of me.
"Setsuna!"
He calls out looking around.

Can he not see me?

"Huh?"
I cock my head.
Once I do he looks down at me.
Looking like a blind man, he moves his hands around as if feeling for something.
Once his hand finds itself on my shoulder he sighs and begins to speak.
"There you are. Come on we have to go. I don't have time to explain."
He glides his hand down arm until he reaches mine.
He pulls me up and begins to run again leaving me to try not to fall behind him.

He's so fast...

(Haruki's POV)

"Have you found her yet?"
I ask Yukiko, showing stress in my voice.
"No. I've looked everywhere, I promise."
She responds looking down.
I rest my hand on her shoulder and fake a gentle smile.
"It's okay, Yukiko. We will find her soon, so don't worry."
I say to her.
She looks up and smiles back at me.
"Alright, I'll go look again."
She says running off.

It's so not okay.
Where could she have gone off to? Yukiko was right there with her.
This doesn't make any sense.

I sigh.
"I won't stop until I find you again."

(Shou's POV)

I listen to her pant as she tries to keep up with me.

What was with the force field back there?
He didn't say anything about a force field.
Jeez!
He never tells me anything anymore.

Looking back at her I slow down.
"We're almost there,"
I say.
"Huh? Can you see me?"
Setsuna asks.

God, she's an idiot she doesn't know anything does she?

"Yes I can see you."
I reply.
"Oh, before you couldn't so..."
She timidly says.
"Whatever, just keep moving."
I say.

I'm tired of talking to her.
Why did I have to be the one to do this?
I see we're close.

(Setsuna's POV)

We've been walking through thick trees for a while now.

I think I can see a clearing up ahead.

" Wait, where are you taking me?"
I ask.
As a tall dark building slowly comes into view, the more worried I become.
"No! Let go!"
I scream.
The more I struggle the tighter his grasp becomes.
