Part.15 Busted

His face is so close.

He draws closer.
With every movement my heart beats faster.
Our lips touch.

It's actually happening.
I mean it's happened before but... It's different now.

He pulls away and smiles at me gently.
"Uh... Um... I... You..."
I find myself not able to speak.
"Having trouble there?"
He laughs in a low tone.
I find myself smiling too.

Why am I grinning like a fool!?

"I see I made the right move."
He breathes a sigh of relief.
"What do you mean?"
I asked him.
"Well I didn't exactly know how you would react to that.
Last time it all happened so fast.
I didn't even have time to think."
He laughs a breathy laugh.
"I see."
I nod.

So he was nervous too?
Oh no!
I think I'm blushing!

"Wow, someones flushed."
He smiles at me.
"Oh no, I really am blushing!"
I say grabbing my cheeks.
"Haha!"
Haruki begins to laugh uncontrollably.
"Haruki! That's not funny! Stop laughing."
I shout at him.
"O... kay... Pfft, haha!"
He wipes the tears away but soon begins to laugh again.
"Uh! Haruki!"

That's not funny!
Huh?
Is... That Kou?
How long... Has he been standing there?

"Uh... Haruki? Do you know how long Kou has been standing there...?"
As I'm looking at Kou I reach out to tap Haruki's arm.

It's apparent that he's been standing there the whole time but I ask only because I don't want to believe it.

Kou back up a few steps before bolting out of the courtyard.
"K-Kou!"
I shout reaching my hand out in his direction.
"Let him go..."
Haruki puts his hand on my shoulder.

Should I...?

I look at Haruki.

I have him now... I... Can't go after Kou.
He's my friend but... I don't want to give him the wrong idea.

I put on my brave face and turn back to Haruki.
"We should get back to training."

Because nothing is more important to me right now than insuring my race lives on.

"Yeah... Let's."
Haruki nods turning back where the cup is.
"So what's next?"
I ask.
"Well, we could start by putting water in the cups. It's a spell. I don't actually mean go get water."
He says holding out his hands when he saw me move slightly.
"Okay."
I say.
Haruki holds out another piece of paper.
He looks at me and says.
"Here. This one always works for me. It's actually good one to know. You'll never run out of water."
I take the piece of paper.

That could come in handy but I don't see myself going to the desert anytime soon...

I look down at the paper.
This chant seems a little bit more complicated than the last.
I don't think it will be too big of a deal.
"Okay, let's try this."
I say.
I walk closer to the cup.
Saying the incantation, I stare intently.
Drops begin to appear in the bottom of the cup.
"They what!?"
I hear Yukiko's voice from the mansion.

Um...

"Should we be worried?"
I ask Haruki.
"Possibly..."
He replies.
I turn the rest of my body towards the mansion.
Yukiko darts out.

Woah she's fast.

"SETSUNA MIYAZAKI!"
Yukiko yells bolting towards me.
"Ah!"
I yell.
I cover my head with my hands and crouch.
I can see that her feet stopped right before running into me.
"Master! You! Did you really kiss Haruki!?"
She asks me.
I look at Haruki hoping for him to step in.
Nothing.
"Uh... Well... Yes."
I stand up but look down.
"Why in front of Kou?"
Yukiko asks.
"I didn't know he was there."
I reply trying to defend myself.
"Kou said you did. He said Haruki looked right at him!"
Yukiko yells furious.

What...?
He saw him.
Then why?

"Did you really see him Haruki?"
I look at him.
"Yes, I did. That was only after it."
He says.

Good. So it wasn't about their stupid competition.

I breathe a sigh of relief.
"Why did Kou even tell you that?"
I ask Yukiko rolling my eyes.
"I dunno. He seems to tell to me a lot about his personal life."
She explains.

Wow!
Kou opens up to her!?
This could be good.

"Hey I'll... I'll be back!"
I say waving at Yukiko and Haruki.

I've got to figure out the truth!

I bolt towards the mansion.
Entering in through the front door I look around.
"Kou! Kou, where are you!?"
I shout.
"Huh? Master?"
Arina asks.
"Arina! Have you seen Kou?"
I ask.
"Y-Yes. There."
Arina says pointing to the dining hall.
"Thanks!"
I say heading to the dining hall.
I but through the doors.
"Kou!"
I shout again.
He's siting at the table across from Hiroto.

Hiroto?
What could they be talking about?

"Um... Kou, I need to ask you something...."
I mutter now feeling awkward because of barging in on their conversation.
He gets up and walks towards me.
Out the door he goes and I close it.
He looks at me and rolls his eyes.
"So... Kou, do you like Yukiko?"
