Part.10 Farwell "Friend"

"No, Haruki! You can't die!
Because... because I think I'm falling for you!"
"... Really?"
Haruki says under his breath.
"Haruki!"
I yell.
"I hear you, I hear you!"
He says.
"You're alive! How?"
I ask in disbelief.
"I... I'm not sure."
Haruki says coughing a little.
I get up and stare Hiroto right in the eyes.
"I see you've found me out. What a pitty."
Hiroto says.
"You're terrible!"
Arina says.
Yukiko's wings still lighting up the room, I can see Hiroto no problem.
"Why? Why would you do this?"
I ask.
"My life. I did it so I could live. You think I could just refuse someone like Guardian? No. So I had to become Fallen."
Hiroto says.
"I see."
Yukiko thinks about the matter.
I turn back to Haruki.
"How are you feeling Haruki?"
"F-fine. Better than fine actually."
He answers.
"How is that?"
I ask myself.
I go to check the place where Hiroto struck him.

There's... no wound!

"What's wrong?"
Haruki asks.
"There's... no injury!"
I respond.
"What!? No way!"
Haruki says.
"What? You mean you don't remember casting that spell either?"
Yukiko asks.

I-I did it... again?

"You cast a high ranking healing spell on Haruki right when you rushed to his side."
Arina explains.
"Are you seriously telling me that you don't remember?"
Yukiko asks.
I shake my head.
"This is all so strange. Why can you never remember casting spells?"
Haruki asks.
They continue to talk to each other as I glance towards Kou.
He's still on the ground casting his eyes down.
"Kou! Are you okay?"
I rush to his side.
"Yeah... I'm fine... that's the problem... I shouldn't be fine, why did he try and save me? He doesn't even really know me."
He says sulking.
I reach out my hand to his shoulder.
"Kou..."
"All I could do is just stand there. I-I COULDN'T DO ANYTHING!"
Kou saying this draws everyone attention.
"It's fine, hun. There wasn't anything you could do anyway. I mean, it's not like you have any magic, you're just a normal human."
Yukiko says, but her comment receives a elbow to the gut from Arina.
"Yeah... you're right... there's nothing special about me at all."
Kou repeats her words.
"That's not true."
I say.
"I'm useless if I can't protect the woman I love. I'm so pathetic... you're falling for someone else."

I... didn't even think about Kou's feelings when I said that... he does love me, doesn't he?"

"Kou, I'm... sorr--"
I begin speaking but Kou cuts me off.
"I'm not giving up! You said you're falling for him, correct? Then I'll take that as you haven't yet confirmed those feelings."
I now notice that Kou and Haruki are glaring at each other.
"S-stop! We can talk about this later. We have to figure out what to do with him."
I say, pointing down at Hiroto.
I'm surprised that when I point at him he passes out.

"What!? Why did he pass out so quickly!?"
I shout.
"Well he hasn't been eating lately."
Arina mentions.
I sigh.
Yukiko pitches an idea.
"I'll bring him to 'my room'. We can keep an eye on him until we decide what to do with him."
Everyone agrees then looks at me waiting for my consent.
"S-sure that's... um, fine with me... I guess."
I respond to their gaze.

Last night we brought Hiroto to Yukiko's room to keep an eye on him. He has yet to wake up.
I'm currently on watch duty. Everyone else is eating in the dining hall.
I hear the door open.
Kou enters.
"Hey."
He says waving.
"Oh, hey."
I wave back.
He comes and leans on the wall next to me.
"You know, if you want to eat, I can take over for a bit."
"Oh, no its... uh, it's fine. I'm not really hungry."
I respond.
"Oh. I see."
He says.
It's been kind of weird between us.

Why has it been so awkward lately?
It wasn't with Haruki and me... and he... kissed me.

I glance at Kou but then back at Hiroto.
I can see from the side of my eye that he does the same. His hand moving closer to mine. He grabs it.

Why is he...?

The doorknob begins to twist.

Wait! What If someone sees us!?
