Zach's POV

I wake up panting and screaming. I jerk the covers off my legs and touch where my leg should've been. My hand meets the blankets. Why does it hurt where there isn't anything? I ask myself. I feel a small finger poke at my arm. I turn and loon at Ginny who burns into me with her eyes that remind me so much of my own.

"I'm okay. Sorry Ginny. Go back to bed." I say gently and kiss her forehead.

Phantom leg. Ginny signs.

"What?" I say sitting up fully and grimacing in pain.

It's phantom leg syndrome. I read about it in the library. Ginny signs again.

"What is that?" I ask looking down at her.

It's when you get a leg, foot, arm, or hand amputated and you feel pain where your limb should be. It's hard to diagnose for doctors too. Ginny signs knowingly.

"You think that's what it is?" I ask.

      Yes. Ginny signs.

"Go to sleep. I'll look into in the morning. You know, your to smart for your own good." I tuck her hair behind her ear and lay back down. "Good night Ginny." I whisper. Ginny curls up to me and rests her head on my shoulder. She went through so much for such a young age. She is smart too. Reading seems to be all she does anymore.i fall into a sort of uncomfortable sleep that I barely remember.

Hollys POV

"And you just told me! You could've died Holly!" Abbey screams.

"Child alert." I pointed down to Jackson who stood beside me.

"I've heard worse." Jackson shrugs and turns back around to the fish bowl in the workers lounge to admire the glowing lights and different size fish.

"See?" I say. "I think I'm doing a good thing." I say proudly and sit in one of the chairs with wheels.

"Me too. He's adorable!" She exclaims.

"Mr. And Mrs. Smith are trying to adopt him." I say.

"Then you could bring him by every day! Oh my god that would be great!" Abbey replies like an idea had just sprung from her head.

"I know it would." I pull my beanie over my head a little more and stuff my hands in my pockets. "After our shift want to run by the café? I have to go back to the house first to get cleaned up though." I say.

"Sure." Abbey says perkily. "Bring him." She points to Jackson. I smile and look down at Jackson who taps his finger on the glass.

"Sure."

•••

"Here can you wear this?" I ask Jackson and find him a pair of athletic pants and a shirt that was slightly to small for him.

"Yep." He nods enthusiastically and takes the clothes willingly to the bathroom and is out in an instance. I put on a tank top that is scattered with marvel chibi characters and then slide on denim shorts. "Super heroes!" Jackson exclaims when he sees them. "This one is iron man." I points at iron man. "That one is captain America. That one is hawk eye. That one is black widow. That one is Spider-Man. That one Is Thor. Hulk. Ant man." And he names off about twelve more.

"Someone's done their homework." I tease and start out the door.

"Actually my homework is normally math." Jackson says innocently which only makes me chuckle. We walk down the block to the corner coffee shop that I practically live in. Abbey waits at one of the tables outside with a purple umbrella, her favorite.

"Hi Jackson!" Abbey says as he climbs into the chair beside of her.

"Hi Abbey." He says sounding out the syllables of her name as though it were a different language.

He knows my name! Abbey mouths. I roll my eyes playfully as the waiter or comes by us.

"What would you guys like today?" He says in a monotone voice. "Oh hi Abbey didn't recognize you at first." I look at her questingly.

"Hi, Tyler." She says. "This is Holly by the way." She gestures toward me and then at Jackson. "That's Jackson."

"Nice to meet you Holly." He smiles and pulls out a notepad signal lung us to order.

While Abbey orders her coffee with creamer I ask Jackson. "What do you want?"

"Ummm.... chocolate!" He exclaims.

"Do you like hot chocolate?" I ask.

"Is that where like chocolate is melted?" He asks stuttering.

"Into like a drink form yeah." I smile.

"Then that's what I want." Jackson laughs.

"Okay then I'll have a Carmel latte." I look up at Tyler.

"Okay coming right up." Tyler says and leaves.

"So Jackson... Did you have siblings?" Abbey asks.

"No I was the only one for mum to hate." Jackson says nonchalantly.

"Did you have a dad?" She asks.

"I think I did before but mum said he died." Jackson replies wonderingly. "She never said what happened to him."

"Why do you want her so much then?" I ask.

"I don't know. She was sometimes normal and then she was really nice and would give me toys and candy for being mean to me." Jackson says nonchalantly once again.

"Oh." Is all I say before our drinks come out.
