you arrived in all white
seemingly docile; gentle
hiding cruel intentions behind
pearly white teeth.
you snuck in
a wolf clothed in sheepskin.
i should've known, from the growl
that found home
behind the letters of my name
every time you spoke it.
i should've known that the
"nails" digging into my back during
every too-sweet embrace ,
were much too sharp.
i should've known that eating sugar-coated poison
will still kill you in the end
