Chapter 20

Jungkook's POV

Aish. What was she? A human popsicle? 

I tensed when she laid her frozen cheek on my chest, and felt my breathing constrict when she wrapped her arms around me. 

We stayed like that for a bit, my heartbeat gradually speeding up until it felt like a galloping horse running for its life. 

Opening my eyes and looking down at her, I found a softly breathing Jieun who no longer looked cold at all. In fact, her cheeks were slightly rosy, which made her porcelain-like skin seem even more beautiful. 

"Jieun-ah." I started uncertainly, suddenly aware of how close our faces were.

She stirred a little, but didn't open her eyes.

"What?" she murmured sleepily.

"Go out with me."

This statement was met with silence, which stretched out long enough to make me start to worry.

"No." she grumbled sluggishly through slow breathing. "Only if you apologize for being a jerk to me before." she then muttered, turning her head to bury her face in my shirt. 

"I'm sorry. Will you go out with me?"

"Arasseo. Now leave me alone. I want to sleep."

I sat there, stunned at what she had just agreed to. 

"Um. You're sure, right?" I asked, poking her.

"Ne....sure." she slurred, her voice muffled by my clothing. 

A smile had etched itself onto my face, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get rid of it.

Taehyung's POV

"I found the path!" I shout excitedly to Minhyuk who was behind me picking carefully through the undergrowth. 

I shoved through the last couple of bare bushes, and burst out onto the trail, with Minhyuk following closely.

"It's that way." he said, pointing to one side. 

I recognized it too, and nodding briefly to him, we both broke out into a run.

A bit later...

We had run all the way to the wilderness center, where we found everyone else milling around, and the teachers panicking. 

Ms. Ryong was talking rapidly into a walkie-talkie, and when she finally spotted us after looking up, she rushed over with a look of immense relief on her face.

"Taehyung-ssi! Minhyuk-ssi! You two have been missing for hours!" she said in a rush. "Where's Jieun and Jungkook?" she asked, looking behind us as if they were be hiding. 

"They're still in the woods." Minhyuk said wearily, having caught his breath first.

Ms. Ryong looked momentarily shocked, which quickly changed into a look of dismay. 

"We need more people to go with us back into the woods so we can search for them." I said reasonably, trying to coax Ms. Ryong who was teetering on the verge of panic. 

"Y-Yes. We will do that." Ms Ryong said while taking deep breaths to calm herself down.

After a while, we managed to gather about half the teachers and fifteen flashlights. With the search party, we headed back into the forest with Minyuk and I in the lead.

Jungkook's POV

I was still grinning like I had sustained a brain injury when Taehyung showed up with about half an army. 

"Yah Jieun, Ileona." I whispered, shaking her shoulder. 

She stirred a bit, then slowly opened her eyes and blinked twice. Her eyes flew wide open when she came to her senses, and she jerked backwards which nearly caused me to lose my balance.

"Yah!" I yelped out in surprise and barely managing to stay upright.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING, YOU PERVERT?!" IU screamed, repeatedly whacking me on the head as she continued to try to get away from me. 

"CALM DOWN!" I yelled over her thrashing.

She stopped squirming and was breathing hard, staring up at me with wide eyes. 

Taehyung had run over ahead of the group, and was surveying the scene while panting, bent over with his hands on his legs. 

I quickly unzipped the jacket and let Jieun, who was still struggling to get away from me, tumble onto the ground as I stood up.

An expression that was completely unfamiliar to me flashed across Taehyung's face as he watched me walk toward him.

Jieun followed me closely, dusting herself off and fuming so hard that her entire face was pink. I found it rather adorable, though if I told her that, I'd probably have been gutted right there and then. 

"Gwenchana?" Taehyung asked concernedly walking over and cupping her face with both hands. She nodded and looked down, not making any attempt to back away, her face still slightly pink.

A burning sensation had started from the pit of my stomach, and further intensified as Taehyung didn't move away from her. 

I strode forward and grabbed Jieun by the wrist, then pulled her towards me. Her cheek bumped into my chest again, which sent a spark of relief and comfort through me. 

Yet I still couldn't understand the sudden flare of hostility I had towards Taehyung, and judging by how his face had darkened, we wouldn't be singing Kumbaya while holding hands any time soon.

We glared each other for a few moments until the teachers arrived, and the sudden flood of light from flashlights knocked me back into my senses. 

My grip relaxed on Jieun's wrist, and I backed away from her a little bit. Jieun hadn't spoken a single word the entire time, and was still standing there, looking slightly scared with her arms around herself. 

Taking a breath, I walked past Taehyung without looking at him, feeling confused and angry for some reason. 

Some time later...

We arrived back at the center without any trouble, and when we went back to our cabins, I couldn't help the small smile spreading over my face at the thought of Jieun. 

I then drifted off into a dreamless sleep, feeling warm and comforted.
