careless laughs and blushing faces

awkward tension and mind races

a mask over her scarred face

running from those who, to her, try to embrace

toothy smiles and forced grins

hide her frown.

both sides turned solemnly down

but I can see the things she covers

unlike the others

I see the tears that flow

behind the mask

and fall below

she tells me her secrets

the truth behind her lies

a crinkled frown, set

speaking true lines

I'm not afraid of her truth, herself

I tell her to take her heart back off of the shelf

she can't see the good in it

when she's distracted by the scars

but they just are what they are
