Ok, for all you trumpet players, have you guys ever played the Tempest by Robert W. Smith? I know I mentioned it earlier in this book.
Well, for those of you that have, don't you guys hate having to rest those six measures before you come in? The mysteriousness of the first six measures is so cool, right? Don't you trumpet players wish you could play those parts? Playing them on a different instrument is cool, (for example, I learned how to play it on trombone) but it would still sound cool on the trumpet.
Well, do I have a solution for you! I have an ability to "play by ear." I've actually figured out a lot of songs this way. I mean, a trumpet only has three valves, so it's not that hard. Well, I figured out how to play the beginning of The Tempest. And even better: I figured out what notes they are for trumpet players.
Ok, here's The Tempest without the beginning:And here's The Tempest with the beginning:
It sounds so cool! I really want to play it as a prank for our band director, but I'm afraid he'll yell at me. Oh well, at least I can do it in private practice. Btw, give credit to me if you ever use this 😉
