I punched the wall.
Why do I even care? I thought. So what if he's sleeping with his personal slave? You don't love him!
I punched the wall again.
Well, maybe you just wanted him to love your child, I thought. Maybe you don't want your child to have to fight for his affections with hers! Maybe you just want a faithful husband!
I kicked the wall, making a painting crash to the ground.
I had found out I was pregnant a couple hours ago. And trust me, I didn't want to be.
It better be a boy, I thought. If it was a boy, then he could inherit the kingdom and I would never have to sleep with Jason again.
But with my luck, it'll probably be a girl, I thought. And the slave's child will probably be a boy.
I punched the wall again.
"What the Hell are you doing?"
I turned and saw Hylla standing in my doorway.
"Punching the wall," I replied. "What does it look like?"
"What happened?" She asked.
"I'm pregnant," I replied.
"That must be nice," She sighed.
"No, it's not," I said angrily. "I don't want to be! And he got his slave pregnant, too!"
"Oh," Hylla said. "You're jealous."
"Jealous?" I roared. "I'm not jealous!"
"Then why do you care so much?" Hylla asked. "Who cares if he got another girl pregnant? I thought you didn't even like him."
"I don't like him!" I snapped.
"Then answer my question," Hylla said.
"Maybe I just wanted a faithful husband," I huffed.
Hylla stood up and, surprisingly, hugged me. I hugged her back.
That's when the tears started to fall.
"I don't want this!" I sobbed. "I don't want any of this!"
"I know," Hylla said softly. "I know."
