His anger had already ignited because of what he found in Anna's room and the trip she was taking, making the fact that she had taken the pearl necklace without asking a distant memory. It was Anna's lies that he couldn't get past and for the moment all he could see was that Anna was all about lying, again just like her mother. He wanted to choke her. By the time Stacy showed up his anger, shock, and curiosity were fighting in his head. When Colin had opened the door and saw her there he thought he was having a nightmare or a dream as the panic feeling was almost crushing his bones. He stood there looking at her and bit his lip to make sure he was awake. When she said her name was Stacy that took his brain even longer to register.
He couldn't believe what he was seeing. He wasn't sure if Stacy could feel the rage within him but with the shock of seeing her, his emotions were all over the place as he quietly controlled his attitude. It was the surprise of her looks that shook him for she could be his wife's daughter, as she looks so similar to her. She could be related, maybe. Colin knew his wife was an only child but she might have had cousins. It wasn't like he knew exactly where Tessa was from as she was reserved about her past. He let her keep her secrets for he had his own family secrets that he wouldn't reveal to anyone so he respected her privacy. Colin had been around the world similar faces in each state and country. This face was unique. The angles defined upturned sloped nose. Her big green eyes seemed overly large. Full lips that pouted often making her look like a lost puppy. He had been worried for a moment about the alcohol in his system when had invited her in, but he had to get to the bottom of her genetics, to know that she wasn't related to Tessa or if Tessa had found another way to torture him. Maybe Stacy was here to find out what really happened to Tessa if she was in fact related to her. He had to be savvy in his handling of her.
Colin had been watching the sun set early over the horizon that he could barely get a glimpse of in the snow storm thinking what a strange wonder today was. He had a great time with Stacy but was having such conflicted emotions. It took him back to when he and Tessa first met. It was a time of fire and flame when he was happy, which was also a time when he wasn't sick. He had been fighting to stay in the moment when he made the drinks. Voices kept whispering in his head that he tried to ignore. It was easier when Stacy's infectious laugh and the alcohol in his system made them fade to blush whispers. Colin was still wise to her age. No matter how young she made him feel, she was still a kid like his Anna. He could tell that Stacy was young with a look of innocence, but he wasn't fooled, there was devil inside her he knew it. Just like there was in Tessa. He got a glimpse of that when she told him she didn't like kids. That had irritated him but then realized that it didn't matter as it didn't have anything to do with his life. He just hoped she never planned to reproduce.
When Stacy had gone in search of the bathroom he had finished making their desserts and was cleaning up. There were bunch of ghosts from girls whose lives were taken away cruelly, that walked around in the house unseen except by him for as much as he knew. But there were only two that he had anything to do with. His Dana with whom his mind couldn't live without and the wicked witch that taunted him horribly every chance she got. Their transparent shadows were seen often by the household but he could see the details. Only since a ski accident he had when he was a young teenager where he hit his head a bit too hard against a tree, did this visibility start happening.
The air grew cold and Colin's eyes were no longer an ice blue, but were darkening to a deeper radiant blue as darkness filled the skin under his eyes for a bruised like effect. This was caused by lies, secrets, and his age as was how his sickness showed when he was upset. He looked sinister as he stood in this alternate reality. The unconscious blended by twisted strands of his personality, wound together to form an alter ego of awareness. It was perfectness in his mind and matter. In this blood rushing state of mind, he was above all and beyond anyone's reach, not a sick human in the least. That is what made him crazy as he listened to what his body and mind were feeling.
