Staring at Brittany's house with nothing but the wind moving Anna felt like eternity was trying to hold onto time making it drag like smog.
"Brittany's pretty, isn't she?" A girl next to Anna asked.
Anna was shocked by the sound of her voice so she responded to Stacy with a scowl forgetting she had been sitting in the car next to her. She focused her attention back to Jake and Brittany holding each other outside Brittany's house.
"Well, I wouldn't imagine that Jake would entertain anyone that wasn't his type. He's hot, why wouldn't he surround himself with pretty things?" Anna said not looking at Stacy and refused to be goaded by her.
"As long as she isn't prettier than you right?" Stacy said with a stupid smile on her face. Anna knew she was trying to irritate her but couldn't understand why. Anna could make Stacy's life so much richer than Brittany could provide. With that, Anna thought it more fitting that Stacy would choose to be on Anna's side.
Anna turned angrily at Stacy and bit her lip stopping only when she realized she had drawn blood. Stacy didn't look affected. Anna averted her attention back at the couple and studied Brittany.
"She is really smart and has a soul that every fabulous girl truly wants. There isn't anyone on this earth like her and there isn't anyone on this planet that can come close in comparison." Stacy said staring at Brittany with envy.
Anna was so sick of Stacy talking that she wanted to eliminate her voice box. She reached into the side compartment on her door and grabbed her little knife which she clutched in her hand. The car filled with a thick silence as they both watched the couple. Anna couldn't help the feeling of hate that was building quickly the longer she looked at Brittany.
"You'll never be anything like her Anna." Stacy said breaking the thick quiet with the slamming sound of her voice.
A switch flicked in Anna's brain. She couldn't take it anymore and quickly she flicked her pocket knife open in motion right before she jammed it in Stacy's neck then pulled it out with a slight tug. Stacy looked shocked at first at Anna then immediately covered her neck with her hand. Blood oozed through her fingers and trickled down her arm like a weak waterfall. Anna stared at Stacy as her heart raced realizing what she did, but then something changed. Stacy started laughing as if someone were tickling her.
"Your good-looking Daddy is going to be so upset." Stacy said in a gasp to catch air.
The mention of her father pushed Anna over the edge and she awoke in her car startled. She couldn't collect her bearings as to where she was at first and what was real. The snow was casting reflections from the rising sun to wake the day. It was still too early in the morning yet for anyone to be moving around with energy but as Anna adjusted her eyes she saw there were lights on at Brittany's house. Checking her watch, she noticed it was around seven o'clock in the morning, she couldn't believe she had gotten several hours of sleep in her car. She ate cold flaky pastries from a box sitting on the passenger seat. They paled in comparison to Chef Caesar's light fluffy flavorful confections, but it was good enough to give a fruity flavor and fill her stomach. If it weren't for having to feed her unborn, she wouldn't care about eating at all.
The red light of her phone kept flashing that seemed more like screaming at her that she had messages. When Anna read her messages, her heart was racing at a speed that almost made it impossible to focus but she couldn't tear her eyes off her phone. The message was from Harmony.
"Why are you ignoring me? I want to know what you are doing. I ran into Stacy shopping yesterday and she let me know you were following her brother. What is she talking about? Are you really? Is this why you went without me? So, your dad is home? What in the hell is going on? Are you running away? Why are you lying to me? You better write me back, we are sisters with plans remember? We're in this together. Call me tonight, I want to know where you are at and what you are doing. I have something to tell you but I will do it later when we can talk. I love you."
