Stone walls.

White curtains.

Cold.

Dim light.

The soft, steady rain poured against the glass.

Black crayon covered the stone walls.

The drawings of a child.

Four years old. Emerald green eyes. Quiet. Solemn.

He almost never spoke.

He was known as the child.

The mysterious toddler of Seattle's hospital for the mentally ill.

"What's this drawing?", a nurse would ask him.

It was a dark woman, shrouded in dark cracks.

"Big big Sissy", he replied plainly, "We can't see her."

The nurse pointed to another woman. This one was surrounded by feather-like shapes, and a male figure loomed threateningly behind her.

"And who's this?", she asked.

"Sissy. Small sissy."

"Who's the man?"

"Don't make brother mad."

There were lots of sketches.

Nobody could figure out what they meant.

But he was just telling them his life, even if it was in a rather cryptic way.

The nurse stood up and grabbed his tiny hand.

"Come on, Peter. It's time to go eat."

The toddler stared blankly ahead.

But right as he walked past the wall....

His small fingers grazed the drawing of his older sister.

Starlin DiNicolo.
