Piflin wondered why, even in a warm room, Delilah stayed bundled up.

And why was she the only orphan child in this room? All of the other children were in other rooms.

Delilah was alone.

When he asked her about it, she hesitated.

Delilah adjusted her scarf and sat on one of the beds.
"Miss Genevieve doesn't like leaving me with the other kids. I'm too... Weird. They won't be my friend. They're scared of me."

Scared.

Just like everyone on Jaspen was afraid of me...

Piflin sat next to her.
"Why would they be afraid of you?", he asked.

There was a glint in her eyes.

A spark of hope maybe. Something told Piflin that she was always lonely, and that he was her first willing friend.

Delilah looked at him, her lips pursed in anticipation.
"Promise you won't run away?"

"I solemnly swear."

"What?"

"It's a big term for 'I promise'".

A deep huff.
She slowly took off her gloves, which Piflin noted, were lined with rubber on the inside.

When she took off her cap, slightly pointy ears were revealed.

Then Delilah began to vigorously run her palms together. Yellow sparks cracked and flew from them.

Piflin's eyes widened in astonishment.

Actual sparks of electricity are flying from her hands.

Wait.

Delilah.

Delilah.

DELILAH!!

"You're Delilah DiNicolo!", Piflin shouted excitedly. The small Prince jumped up and down.
"We've been looking for you!"

Delilah blinked.
"We?", she asked skeptically.

"Yes! Me, and your family!"

Piflin jumped back when a large crack of electricity flew from Delilah.

She was grinning.
And sparks flew from her body.

"Is Kipkip there?!", she asked anxiously.

"Kipper? Yeah! And Skipper too!"

"Wait... You're an alien too?!"

Piflin, grinning till his cheeks hurt, moved a lock of blonde hair. He showed her his pointy ears.

Delilah hopped down from the bed and ran to a dresser. From in it, she pulled out a button-up shirt and a pair of pants.

The little girl tossed them at Piflin, then shoved her gloves back on.

"We can't hide those blue thingies on your face, but you need to wear this. You'll look normal."

"What are we doing?"

Delilah gave Piflin the signature sharp-toothed grin of the DiNicolos.

"T-this is high up...", Delilah stammered.

They had climbed out of the orphanage window to the ledge and were now staring down.

The sidewalk seemed like a long fall.

The newcomer, Piflin was his name, took a deep breath.

Their hands gripped each other tightly in fear.

"You trust me, do you not?"

Delilah didn't understand what he meant.

"What?"

"Do you trust me?"

His eyes were so blue. So friendly.

He was taking her back to her family.

Of course she trusted him.

Delilah hesitantly nodded.

Piflin jumped off the high ledge, taking Delilah with him.
